I suspect the impact of these facilties is greater at our level than the next level. While I am no expert, I've heard that the LAC is at the Power 5/D-IA football schools. At those higher levels, they are comparing a Mercedes to a Lexus. At our level, it is like comparing a Lexus to, perhaps, a nice Chevy that our competitors have.
That said, no question, nice facilities are not going to compensate for a jerk of a coach or staff. Fortunately, we don't have that issue.

The underlying study (focusing on football) attempts to answer one particular question: "If a school builds a new athletic facility, does its recruiting improve after the facility is constructed?" Obviously there are flaws and unaddressed issues in all studies and there is no representation HC and the LAC are applicable to the study.. Always nice to see commonly-held assumptions examined. One interesting finding: "Somewhat surprising was that the few recruiting bumps we did see were related to the one or two-year period before the facility was completed. This finding may imply that the institution reaps more recruiting-related benefits from the promotion of a future facility than it does once the facility is completed and presented in physical form to interested recruits. This implies that athletic departments should seize on the positive PR flowing from these facility projects by breaking the projects into multiple phases, therefore allowing more time to market the “potential” of the new facilities before they become a physical structure." athleticdirectoru.com/articles/do-facilities-matter-recruiting/

Yeah, expecting athletes to be interested in facilities is like expecting students to be interested in dorms or dining facilities.......
