Interesting that Chesney said these three all have a chance to play this season. His comments on Oliver are especially encouraging. Thanks for the article, 92

Kind of interesting that Oliver signed a LOI in February.
I would have thought he'd be on free ride because of his father and wouldn't need a scholarship. Maybe faculty/staff kids just get tuition and not room and board

Really interesting that two of these guys create the hire of Chesney as the reason they puled the trigger for Holy Cross.

Taking absolutely nothing away from our new head coach, it doesn't hurt that 1. we have an LAC that is tangible; 2. that these guys are all local; 3. they have a very successful head coach in high school who is a big supporter of the College, an alumnus, and a star himself on the Holy Cross football team; 4. and, oh yeah, one of the 3's father is the strength and conditioning coach.
Coach Chesney had a lot to work with here but he closed the deal. Very sweet that the one was going to play for Harvard and then decided on Holy Cross. Now, if we can start winning games, "success begets success" and we may well see an upward spiral on this program that we've all been waiting for.

Jeff Oliver might be my favorite employee of The College.
Also I am not exactly an expert on the topic but it is my belief that athletes cannot aid that is not athletic or need based. This is why Oliver had to be awarded a full football scholarship. Otherwise, schools could recruit over the limit and create academic or arts scholarships to give out to their preferred walk-ons. ROTC would be an exception but in current times, few Division I athletes are able to fulfill that obligation alongside the sports commitment.

It's about time. Former staff wasn't even looking in our own back yard.

It's about time. Former staff wasn't even looking in our own back yard. Hard to say when HC first reached out to any of the three St. John's guys and, in fact, schollie considerations. I do think Chesney definitely gets it in terms of owning your area (and growing local fans) but at the same time none of the nine or ten current verbal commits thus far are from New England (apparently there is a 10th guy soon to announce who is probably not from New England): VERBAL COMMITMENTS (9) QB CHRIS BUTASH (FL -- 2*) OL BEN BLESSING (MD -- 3*) OL C. J. HANSON (NJ) OL PATRICK McMURTRIE (NJ -- 3*) DB KAMRYN MOLTON (IN) DB/WR JONATHAN YOUNG (VA) TE SEAN MORRIS (NJ -- 3*) ATH JARED KREIMER (OH) LB JACOB DOBBS (MI -- 2*)

A lot of talent (D1 too) has come out of St. John's in Shrewsbury over the last few years. Unfortunately there was no relationship with the prior HC staff. Too many have gotten away.

It's about time. Former staff wasn't even looking in our own back yard. You have to remember one thing.... The local area players have to want to come here! From what I have heard from more than a few people... Even though the local players were recruited by the former staff, the local players did not want to come and play for the former staff! Obviously, that has changed!
