www.wsj.com/articles/college-footballs-growing-problem-empty-seats-1535634001This article was not behind a paywall, but I got ir re-directed from Google News. Posted as a separate thread from BC attendance because it addresses what has been obvious at Fitton for years, that the announced attendance is often much higher than the actual. According to the WSJ, biggest offender was Coastal Carolina with announced of 89754, amd actual of 15,248. I'm guessing the actual was probably about 3,000 a game. For all of FBS, actual was 71 percent of announced. The worst offending conference was Mid-American at 45 percent. No conference was immune, even in the SCE, announced was more than one million more attendees than the actual, or over 20 percent.

This must come as a real shock to those who believe that such misreporting was done only by Holy Cross.

Mindful of the fact that attendance numbers are generally "paid attendance" so people who bought a ticket and don't show up are still counted. I'm guessing there are a few season ticket holders not showing up at Camden now that the O's have been mathematically eliminated from the wild card
