Individual awards are nice, but I'm sure JF, AB, and every other player on the team will regard the season as an unmitigated flop if Holy Cross finishes fifth.

Street & Smiths is back.....HC once again picked 5th (Lehigh 1st, and AU last - that seems off). JF all league; in speaking of him, though, they note he "has to cut down on his turnovers". Ok.

Not a bad pick, but I would rather see them at least at 5th in the real season.

I think that the PL pre season poll of the coaches & ADs is the most 'authoritative' if not accurate. Rival coaches should have a good sense of the strengths & weaknesses of the programs that they play twice a year. It should be interesting to see how accurate it has been, top 3/bottom 3, over the last 5 years.

I will NEVER get used to looking up at any of these teams in basketball.
I vomit that it includes Colgate.

Ditto They did beat us 3 times last season [some would say twice and we beat ourselves once]. Beating them twice this season will be a notable accomplishment for a young team that arguably gets younger the following season.

Biggest disconnect between prediction and reality in recent years was American in 2013-14 in Brennan's first year. Picked to finish ninth, iirc, they ended up finishing 2nd and winning the tournament.

And history is about to repeat itself. Look, I'm in the tank for AU, but there's no way in hell we're finishing ninth and/or seventh if we have a first-team PL selection in Sa'eed and a second-team selection in Sam, and we're bringing everybody back from last season, and we're getting back our all-rookie (2017) center in Mark Gasperini, who didn't play a minute last season because of concussions, and we're getting another veteran big back in Yilret Yiljep, who was misdiagnosed with a heart condition and is returning after missing the last three years, and we're adding two potential impact freshmen (F Josh Alexander; G Jacob Boonyasith). We haven't had a rising junior PG with two years under his belt since Derrick Mercer's junior season, 2007-08. Sa'eed's primed for a monster season. I know my team. When we suck, I say so. We're not going to suck this year.

Definitely could be right, HC. Hence "potential impact freshmen." FWIW, Josh is at 243 pounds already and, from what I've been told, looking great in workouts.

"...a lot would have to fall into place for Holy Cross to contend for the conference title." True enough. That does not mean it won't happen. With experienced sops and some talented seniors showing the newcomers the ropes, it could happen. The OOC will tell. If we lose almost all ooc games again, it may not be that much better tan last year in the PL regular season.

A fifth place finish in the PL would be hugely disappointing as the five teams that finished ahead of us last year all lost significant players while the defending champ was decimated losing 3 first team PL players. Floyd is far and away the most intimidating returning player this year and should continue to dominate the paint as he did during league play last year. If the returning sophomores are as good as most on this board seem to think they are there is no reason why a league championship is not a real possibility. Unlike the last few years there is not dominant team returning so anything less than a top 3 finish and a deep playoff run would be in my opinion a failure and place a bullseye on the coaching staff.

But perhaps the purple shaded glasses we wear regularly here have distorted reality. Watching HC football and basketball brings back hidden memories of my Brooklyn Dodgers. It was almost always "wait 'til next year."
