in BGA's blog this morning he quotes from Yale Football blog both "3 yds and a cloud of dead grass" who said "The lawn maintenance crew seems to be having a hard time gaining entrance to the Yale Bowl too." as well as "Eyes on Elis" who said " What is really sad about the condition of the Yale Bowl turf is that there are experts employed by Yale at the golf course just 3 miles away who could have been placed in charge of the year round health of the turf. Somebody with authority should have made that happen.
Second, the money was there to put in the synthetic turf field promised to the players and coaches for this season. Again, nobody took responsibility for getting the necessary permits in time from the municipal officials."

The money was in place for installation of synthetic turf at the bowl, entirely paid for by football alumni. An individual Yale professor raised objections about the ground up rubber compound being dangerous to inhale, although Yale had already installed turf on multiple fields. Once her objections were cleared administration officials dropped the ball getting city permits in time on hauling out the dirt.
As to the issue of natural turf maintenance that has been a disgrace for years. Nobody in operations was held responsible even though the experts at Yale Golf Course were two miles away. Bloated University administration with nobody accountable

one unforeseen problem which delayed the installation of faux turf is the portals. they were not wide enough for getting the equipment in and the existing turf and thousand of cubic feet of soil out. a solution is being developed, it's going to happen, just likely a year later than originally expected. not a lack of bureaucratic effort.
Give me a break on the portal excuse. You mean to tell me with all other renovations to the bowl no equipment has ventured into the bowl through the portals or any other entryway in the last 100 years? When the decision was made and the money was donated for field turf nobody checked operational issues when the bid was solicited? Width of portals was not mentioned as an excuse by any administration employee I spoke to directly on this issue.
Separately, there is no excuse for the natural turf to be in worse condition than a dog run.
