St. Joseph's is one of those all women colleges for Catholics who worried that their daughters would lose their faith or their virginity if they went elsewhere. That obviously went out of fashion about 50 years ago. St. Joe's has managed to stay afloat all of these years with nursing, social work and teacher training programs. They started a pharmacy program a few years ago to try to stand out and have started accepting men. The Jim Calhoun piece is supposed to be a bold stroke to generate publicity and attract students.
Per the Princeton Review, the student body makeup is
5.01% Asian 14.76% African-American 15.81% Hispanic 55.47% Caucasian 6.59% Unknown
I think there are a lot of first-generation college students. Full sticker price is around $50,000 but it looks like most pay about half of that or comparable to CCSU and the other schools in that group.
The endowment is $27 million.
Give them credit for trying. Let's see how it turns out.

Perhaps those are people who refused to answer the race question?
(edit) Is George Blaney on the Connecticut shore or back on the Cape? If he's in Conn. might we see him helping out Jim?
