Not HS teammates, but as Grass Roots teammates, Ryan and cousin Drew Lowder, the last teammates to play for HC before that I can think of are Ronnie Perry and Mike Vicens at Catholic Memorial, 2 years apart.

Welcome, Ryan! Lots of depth in the back-court, and Pridgen may be able to swing to SF, too. Believe we're done now for 2019 - and HC92 gets his wish.

For the record, Ryan had a slew of mid-major offers - a handful from the MAC and Detroit last year, and six more this past summer, including Air Force, San Diego, Robert Morris, North Dakota, and Lehigh.
It looks like all three of these guys can play some straight up man defense, too.

FANTASTIC NEWS! welcome aboard, ryan.
judging by the number and quality of other scholarship offers - which is always the best (albeit still imperfect) metric for the quality of a recruiting class - this is our best class in years.
congrats to carmody and staff for landing a number of desired players who appear to be great fits for our program and school.

I hope you guys are not putting too much pressure on this young man. It's not like we beat out UNC, Duke or Louisville for this recruit.
Glad we got him but maybe lower the expectations a wee bit?

Only speaking for myself sader - I am hyped about getting this kid....but, most of my excitement is about the projected makeup of the overall roster going forward. I have no expectations of automatic championships (or else). It just looks like we should be able to be contenders going forward. We may yet rue the loss of KC at some point this coming year; but, being able to get Hargis and Verbeek in the program this year may be a blessing in disguise.

And- it's been lamented more than a couple of times that we get kids without any real offers. Well, the MAC, WCC (San Diego), and Mountain West (Air Force) are all leagues clearly ahead of the PL. Probably can say the same for the Horizon League (U of Detroit).

Glad we got him but maybe lower the expectations a wee bit? haven’t seen anything even remotely suggesting we beat out a top 10 program for wade, louder, or hargis. we did, however, beat out a slew of mid-majors (19 confirmed scholarship offers across the three signees) to land this class. as such, it is not putting any undo pressure on the players to point out this fact that it is our best recruiting class on paper in a long time. these guys aren’t babies and if they read this message forum at all, they aren’t the types that are going to fold under pressure of a few message board posters expressing their excitement over the class. these are d1 basketball players who, for the most part, are confident in themselves and optimistic for the success. just look at ab’s post about championships! i agree with him and i hope every player on the roster shares those expectations.

I hope each of them brings the attitude we saw in Austin Butler and other frosh last season. I feel THAT would be a huge addition, especially on defense.

As the investment bankers say, “Past performance is no guarantee of future results.” However, in HC’s case, the past performance of Michiganders in the program (Grayson, Moulton, Tropf, Mashburn, Walker and Pegues [played his HS ball in Michigan], all of whom started for 2 or more years) gives me hope and reason for optimism that BV, DL and RW will have productive careers in the Purple.
All 3 players come from quality programs with histories of on court success and have played against quality competition in HS and in their respective AAU programs.
I’m looking forward to the next 4-5 years with them in the program.

Probably can say the same for the Horizon League (U of Detroit). And let's add the Colonial. Towson's coach, Pat Skerry - who made his reputation at Providence as one of the East's best evaluators of New England prep school talent - offered Joe Pridgen just a couple weeks before he committed to Holy Cross.
In the northeast, we tend to see the A10 as the standard for mid-major excellence. Here's how Sagarin rated conferences noted above last year:
8. Mountain West 10. A10 11. MAC (West) 12. WCC 14, Colonial 15. MAC (East)
The PL ranked 28th. Just in terms of the programs we successfully competed with this cycle, it's a big step forward. And importantly, we competed in the Midwest, where key foes, Lehigh and Bucknell, have recruited well for years. All the HC coaches have ties to that region, and Carmody deserves particular credit for personally working the gyms in Michigan and Illinois last September.
