One other thing, regarding scheduling: CBC is a proponent of strong scheduling, if it makes sense......meaning - with regard to power schools, he's fine with playing them if they can be competitive. He said something like "hey, if you're going to be down 25 at the half, why bother". So - I guess he's expecting close games at Michigan and Providence.

Was there a coaches’ show tonight ? Did anyone listen ? I was surfing on my iPad and caught the show right at the beginning. CBC was his usual coy self, bantering with Lusk and giving him a hard time about his questions. He didn’t give a whole lot of detail, but did say that he thought the team was going to be very good and deep. He said the seniors have been helpful in developing the younger guys and they provide a lot of discipline on the court. Had a lot of praise for JF spoke of his development over four years. Ziggy spoke about the school, his economic major and the opportunities its opened up for him. He’s well spoken and a great ambassador for the program. He too, was upbeat about the season, but again, not a lot of detail. Was hoping to hear of what 8 players would be at the top of the rotation, but no hints. CBC did say that while he has a pretty good idea of the starters (purple shirts), that many second team (white shirts) keep getting better and are in the mix. While he mentioned the team was not good at the beginning of last year, it got better as the year went on and has gotten even better since. He was pretty upbeat, for him! we’ll see in six days!

I didn't listen, but will catch up later today. Reasonable guesses: Last year 5 guys averaged 20+ minutes per game. Floyd, Benzan, Green, Butler, and Grandison. They're no-brainers Coach Carmody has said that the returning guys will get the bulk of the minutes. He will try to work Hargis in. I'm guessing that sounds like #9 - which is not in the top #8 3 guys were 10-20 minutes per game. In order Zignorski, Niego, and Faw. Faw played more total minutes than Niego, but played nine more games The wildcard is Copeland, who has been singled out as having improved a lot over the summer. He only played about the same as LeSann, whom I don't think is in the mix. From a height standpoint, if Copeland steps up, I'm guessing it will be at Zignorski's expense. Last year Faw fouled a lot. If he hasn't improved in that realm, it will open the door for the bigger guys. Just my two cents

A wealth of talent can be a problem when it comes to playing time...but is a nice "problem" to have. They will also be injuries down the road (not looking for that, but it does happen) and this is a group that can be (as HCBC said) "next man up!"

The team is going to be deep - haven't had that luxury at HC in a long time!

Just watched. I would suggest that Carmody feels about the same about Lutsk's questions as he does about NAD's, so don't feel bad, Dave. My takeaways: Freshmen will have a hard time breaking into the rotation with all the veterans returning. Ziggy says he's gained 35 lbs since coming to HC and Carmody says about him "I know I can trust him" and he helps the younger guys. No point in trying to teach JF how to shoot a 3. That's not his strength. As for the prospects this season, he described it as he "just want to be a tough out." He really was doing the eye rolls with Lutsk, at one point saying "you're something else" and more than once said "did I answer your question" and seemed annoyed that Lutsk asked multiple part questions. Said "we were pretty bad last year" in the context of having so many returning players. This is consistent and almost exactly what he personally said to me a few years back when I asked him if he was concerned after losing so many seniors after winning the PL championship and he said "I'd be worried if were any good last year." He did say the guys are "self-motivated" and love being in the gym. He confirmed Perkins will "not be playing." He sarcastically said, though it might be true, to break up the routine/boredom, that they would take the team "apple picking." He doesn't like summer practices and says the season is "too long" from September to March (Lutsk said, "maybe even April") and Carmody mentioned being tired. When talking about Jeyhve, he said "I'm not big on this leadership stuff" and seemed to pooh-pooh the role of being a team captain implying multiple players should be leaders. Final dig at Lutsk who apparently assured him he would not on camera dig him about Carmody's Giants, is when Carmody's body language that "by saying you weren't going to say something, you are saying something" and then Carmody said saracstically "you're something else." While we've often gotten the impression Carmody doesn't like to answer questions by anyone, this strikes me as he personally doesn't like Lutsk. Just an impression. He truly seems pained to do these things and guessing he wasn't much happier with the Chuck's Steakhouse event.

Maybe Coach Carmody should send a member of his staff to do these gigs that he appears to be averse to doing.

I like that he said that when the Purple team (starters) plays the White team, the White team can be just as good as the Purple. That speaks to depth, as others have noted and Coach came right out and said "depth is better than it has been"

When a coach has to find a way to best use players' abilities as subs it can be a crap shoot some nights. When a team has true depth and can really have a "next man up" style of play, that is a luxury not enjoyed by many teams at our level. HC could be developing into such a team.
