As a non conference opponent, I thought this was newsworthy:

A kid who was suspended from his team in high school and then at his first college got in trouble again at his third college??? What are the odds?

Odds are Much lower at Cluess’ Iona than at most schools Griffin is certainly not the first transfer thug Cluess has brought in.

None of this would have happened if the coach hadn't told him to go to study hall. The audacity

this is the maac for which some have cluelessly yearned for hc. same relatively low level of basketball with off the charts thug quotient. yeah, sounds great! the pl is a far better fit for us than this joke of a league.

I am not a big fan of the MAAC for HC, but to be fair, Cluess’ Iona thugs are not representive of the entire league.

I am not a big fan of the MAAC for HC, but to be fair, Cluess’ Iona thugs are not representive of the entire league. patsos at loyola/siena was not much better before being removed. niagara a few years before that might have led the country in terms of suspensions and questionable transfers. www.nytimes.com/2006/10/12/sports/ncaabasketball/12sportsbriefs-005.htmlthe maac simply does not have an impressive track record of academics, character, or basketball success. i would argue that the pl is in the same general range of basketball success with FAR better character and academics.

As I've said before, the MAAC we left (Army/La Salle / Fordham /Loyola MD) isn't the MAAC HC would be switching to; which is why I've always been "agin" it.

This story has been on the front page of ESPN all day. Not ideal for Iona.

Cluess deserves all the bad publicity he gets. Up to now Some NY media have praised him far too much for far too long.

Cluess recruited similar players going back to the days he was at St Mary's HS in the early 2000's. I remember when one of his star players looked much older than 19 and, rumors persisted, even when he produced a birth certificate that it was forged.
The only thing that surprises me about this most recent event at Iona is that they didn't fire the asst coach and keep the player. This kid has some pretty big numbers late in last year including 21 pts vs Duke in the NCAAs.
Clues has been successful at every level he has coached but his modus operandi is simply win at all costs.
Always kind of amazed me that, since both he and his family have a long history at St John's, that they never seriously considered him for their head coach. Makes you wonder if there are skeletons in the closet that never hit the news.

St. John’s does have some ethical if not academic standards. At St. Mary’s he actively recruited in Europe as well as Queens to get players to go to a small HS in Nassau with an even smaller gym.

St. John's recruitment of Zach Brown certainly does not reflect the highest of ethical standards.

Lol. Got it. "Some" is a fair compromise.
