Seems close to be finalized that Mike Houston will take the Charlotte job (JMU is better than Charlotte but they're FBS). Might play to Colgate's advantage as the JMU players know that their coach has one foot out the door. Better money in a prime market. Job has a lot of upside.

I always wondered why the NCAA doesn't place some kind of moratorium on negotiating with coaches until the season is over. Just draw a line in the sand - January 15th. Always a distraction at the end of the year during bowl season. Should be same concept as professional sports teams not being able to negotiate with free agents until the postseason is over.
I'm guessing there's a reason that I'm overlooking? Otherwise, this seems to have the makings of a common sense policy.

Well now, here's the flaw in your logic: "Common sense" and "NCAA" are oxymorons.

Houston, the JMU coach, met with, was offered and accepted the Charlotte job....and get this....on condition he be allowed to explore other offers !!!!
Charlotte immediately recinded the offer....so he may show up in Hamilton. What a jerk !

Dan Hunt (Colgate’s Head Coach) has the right attitude with his winning program:
“ ‘To get seeded and get a home game gets us some national recognition for what we're trying to do here," he said. "Some of the things this team has done this year have never been done before, and it's nice to see there's a payoff for that.’
Colgate won the Patriot League with stunning ease, and has outscored FCS opponents 67-0 in the first quarter and 195-9 in the first half. Colgate also is the only Patriot League team with a winning record. “
ESPN3 at 1pm (much nicer than chilly Hamilton ..dusting of snow yesterday).

Well, that Colgate 1st quarter unscored upon FCS streak lasted about a minute. 7-0 JMU.

CU winning 20-13. 5 interceptions.
Houston wants one of the other two NC jobs open (App State, E Carolina), it would appear.

Watched the last 10 minutes - JMU was dominating on the ground and scored to tie the game at 20 - Colgate can't move the ball and punts back to JMU. They move the ball to the 'gate 45 with 2 1/2 minutes left and have a 4th and 6 - fake punt is stopped and colgate takes over and gives it to Holland (he's very good!) almost every play (there was one big pass for about 20 yards) and take it to the 21 with 3 secs left - kid kicks it through from 38 for the win. A little respect for the PL ! Next up no.1 seed North Dakota St in their Fargodome. A tall order

How is this possible? Wasn't Colgate supposed to lose to any CAA team they played by 4 or 5 touchdowns? OR Could Colgate and the PL be a bit better than some here have said? Congratulations to Colgate. Now lets get busy so HC can beat them next year.

The CAA is lightyears ahead of the PL - The JMU qb threw 5 ints that kept Colgate in the game. JMU was playing with 17 FBS transfers - yes, congrats to the 'gate for finding a way to get this one,no one can take that away from them

Except for some snowball-throwing 'Gate fans (LOL) that the announcers mentioned, the whole school looked great on ESPN3 today from the players to the coaches to the field to the shots of the campus buildings. As head coach Dan Hunt mentioned, this is very good recognition and exposure for the school.
An exciting 3-point victory as time expired.
While it is super the PL (more accurately, Colgate and their single PL challenger ) might gain a bit of respect as the 9-4 Dukes head home I do hope it doesn't help 10-1 Colgate land better recuits.
It seemed to be a decent crowd (hard to tell from the shots) especially given the 34 degree weather (with lots of unmelted snow around the field).
Edit: Crowd was 6418 which compares quite favorably to the sunny and 74 degree opening day crowd of 5304 v Patriot League rival Holy Cross on September 1st in Hamilton.

The JMU qb threw 5 ints that kept Colgate in the game. The JMU QB had 7 picks in his first 12 games. He had 5 today. It’s possible Colgate actually earned its 5 picks instead of just being passive recipients of the generosity of the QB.

Now Colgate gets North Dakota St. Was hoping Montana would win so Colagte would get another home game. Wondering what the attendance number would be if HC played James Madison today in Worcester. There was definitely a few James Madison fan there. Which helped the attendance.

Congrats to the Red Raidahs but let's not make it out as the "upset of the century"...if we cared about football, and it looks like we do now, we should easily be at the level of the CAA schools. It's not like JMU, Villanova, Delaware et. al. are in the SEC...we beat those types of schools when we cared about football in the 80s and can do so again.

Just because they are getting props for a great win doesn't mean anyone considers it anywhere close to "upset of the century". JMU was favored by 6.5 points at kickoff -- I'm sure not ONE Colgate player thinks the win was an upset. That being said, the trip to Fargo is another task. Were talking about a North Dakota State team that very well could have won the Big Ten West Division. I'm saying 31-10 Bison. Too bad theres still no PL-IVY bowl game, this would have been one of the best ever with Colgate and Princeton. But I'll be watching the Red Raiders on TV/internet Saturday. Hope they shock the world. Speaking of major upsets, was anyone following the Drake-Iowa State game? ISU won 27-24. Final spread was 41.5 and had been as high as 50.5 before weather forecast changed.

Fairly long drive from Harrisonburg but sort of a "straight shot" on I-81. Maine had an excellent draw too bringing in over 6K. I thought both these games would be in the 3-4K range.

The significance of the playoffs and promise of a good game drew the 6418 fans -- notwithstanding the very chilly 34 degrees and the wide availability of ESPN3.
I'm thinking that if we had Colgate's season and we hosted the game yesterday v JMU in our sunny 37 degree weather yesterday it would have been an enormous (by our recent standards) home crowd. There are so many general football fans in our vicinity (Worcester, etc.) on top of HC supporters and travelling JMU fans.

Is "spotting of the ball" not reviewable in college football (challenge or booth review or both)?
There were two plays in the fourth quarter of the Colgate game that were horrible spots, one favored each team. Very surprised neither one was looked at. Neither one was, as I recall, a "forward progress" situation.
One oddity in that game, if the visual was correct (I missed the first two quarters and five minutes of the third), was that Colgate scored 3 points off turnovers. Only 3 with 5 interceptions!
