Holy Cross promotes it's alumni giving rate widely but without much context. We hear it is valued and are rightfully proud to approach and typically exceed 50% participation. We are also told grants and other awards often look at participation rate. I've been through the admission process as a parent twice in the last 5 years and heard about the outstanding alumni support and network, but again, not much context was offered - things like we're consistently in the top 10 of alumni giving or frequently exceed 50% alumni giving. Well, I saw this link on the Fairfield board. They were trying to get 1000 new donors to bring their participation rate to ... 18% with a goal to get to 25% by 2020. They showed an intersting graphic as part of the campaign, here www.fairfield.edu/participatenow/Now I'm sure other liberal arts colleges we consider peers may have much better participation rates that the schools shown by Fairfield, but when you consider our core demographic of perspective students - yes it still is Catholics - I think the disparity between HC and the other Catholic colleges on this graphic speaks volumes. I hope HC can add some context to promoting the truly exceptional affinity alumni feel for the college as demonstrated through the alumni participation in the HC Fund! And FWIW - Georgetown just completed a successful campaign to get undergraduate alumni participation rate to 35%.
