Time on the court (or off) as a freshman does not, by itself, mean anything about a player's future potential. So there is no difference in the future potential of a freshman who barely got off the bench and played 50 minutes in his first season compared to one who was a starter and played 800 minutes? What? You're bending over backwards to find something negative to imply. Your hypothetical is ridiculous.

They NEVER play; comparing the season's stats to the roster, I see three that have not played or barely played (Lovisolo, Hart and Yeutter (2 minutes), while the other two have gotten nothing but garbage time minutes (Hargis (22) and Verbeek (18)). That group got a collective 6 minutes of playing time in a game v West Point that was fairly one-sided (by our standards) last night.
There were 8 players who did play 10 mins or more for HC.

It seems that Hargis is finally getting a little light. He's played a few minutes in the last couple of games; and the way PT is given out on this team playing at all is a big deal! Ive also noticed the bench has gotten a little longer of late; is that due to BC not being there as much or has he changed his philosophy a bit? You can't get through a season playing 6-7 guys a game.
also, i don't recognize any of the names, which of the walk-ons had a dad who played at HC?

This sophomore class can compete at this level. Not sure if any other Carmody's recruits can based on stats. Either way, much needed win against Army.

One quick question. In both the men's and women's games this week the announcer said that only 8 teams get to play in the PL tournament. I seem to remember everyone getting to play in the PL tournament, the bottom 4 having a play-in game for the last two spots. Has that changed?

How could the announcer be so misinformed? Wait, I forgot that these were two PL broadcasts.

Looking back over the last twenty years or so, there have been only a few players who logged less than 40 minutes as freshmen and went on to contribute more meaningfully.. Matt Husek. Played only 10 minutes as a freshman, don't recall there being an injury to explain it. Josh Jones. Played just 24 minutes as a freshman - contributed 374 minutes off the bench as a senior. James Stowers. Played 32 minutes as a freshman, solid 500 minutes in both his sophmore and junior seasons. Greg McCarthy. 15 minutes as a freshman, then 1,000 minutes or so (and ~100 points) over the next three years off the bench.
Kyle Cruze (04-05) and Kevin Hyland (02-03) also in this group - but their lack of playing time was more understandable, since they debuted on very good, deep teams.
A note on Verbeek . . . He may be a "big" in terms of height, but he is not a traditional "big" in terms of style - he prefers to operate outside the paint.
I would be ecstatic if Verbeek went on to have the career of Matt Husek. He wound up being a very versatile big guy who found a solid niche his junior and senior seasons. I remember during his last season here thinking, “what he’s a senior already?” due to sparse minutes early in his career. I see more of Greg McCarthy in him, however (based on a mere 2 minutes of observation at the first Army game). I also did not realize that Josh Jones wound up logging so many minutes as a senior.

maybe Carmody has been reading this message...Hargis played 14 minutes vs BU...that was about half of what he had played all season!
He looked athletic, but a little unsure when he was forced to handle the ball for anything more than a quick pass in the flow of the offense. Thats probably due to never playing any meaningful minutes before. You could see him gain a little confidence as the game went on as he took a couple of threes within the rhythm of the offense. In now there was some fouled trouble, so it'll be interesting to see if he earned any minutes off that game, or was Carmody just sending a one game message to some of his regulars.

Witz - it certainly looks like Hargis is getting more confident out there. Liked what I saw from him against Lafayette and BU despite obviously adjusting to the DI level. I do believe he will be a regular contributor next season. Would like to see LeSann have a break out game.

Sorry. He only has one per season and already had it. You'll have to wait until next season.
