During Torey Thomas’ four years as a star point guard at Holy Cross, the Crusaders waged some pretty intense battles against Bucknell, including in the 2006-07 Patriot League championship when Thomas, in his final home game, scored a career-high 28 points to lead HC to a 74-66 win and automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
Thomas was in attendance at the Hart Center last Saturday for the latest installment of Holy Cross-Bucknell, and watched his alma mater defeat the first-place Bison, 72-71, behind senior Jehyve Floyd’s 19 points.
Thomas, who turns 34 next week, was visiting Worcester from his home in White Plains, New York. He is playing professionally in Poland and had last week off. Thomas has seen much of the world during his professional playing career.
Thomas saw HC win at Iona in December, but last weekend was the first time he toured the Luth Athletic Complex. He was very impressed with the facilities.
There was hope Holy Cross’ big win over Bucknell would give the Crusaders some momentum over the final few games of the regular season, but Monday night’s loss to Boston University was a setback. HC has not won consecutive games in league this season.
The Crusaders play road games at Lehigh and Colgate before returning home for the regular-season finale against American on March 2.

Former Worcester Academy boys’ basketball coach Mo Cassara was at the Hart Center Monday night to call the Holy Cross game for CBS Sports Network.
Cassara, who grew up in Canton, New York, graduated from Worcester Academy in 1993, coached the Hilltoppers for four seasons and also coached at Clark for two years. He has long considered Worcester “home.”
Cassara and his wife, Elisa DiStefano, live on Long Island, and later this week they are expecting their second child. Their son, Christian, 2½, will be a great big brother.
