We definitely don’t want any instability in the coaching staff when we hit the road to recruit a 6-person class. Though it may only be 5 if Niego redshirts. Which, to come full circle, actually bolsters the argument for a change now. Exactly. Giving a 68-69 year old Carmody 6 scholarships to give out after 18 consecutive seasons below .500 in conference (assuming next year is not going to finally be his breakthrough year) would be total insanity. The longer we keep Carmody around, the longer it will take for the next guy to turn things around.

Last year the standard was finishing in the top 3 in the league and winning or at least getting to the final game in the tournament, we finished last in the league and now a good number of posters want to give Carmody another year makes no sense. Given his record to date I don't want Carmody anywhere near giving out 8 scholarships to the next two classes. That being said it looks like the most likely scenario is Carmody finishing out his contract then being replaced at the end of next year with the new coach being faced with the prospect of having to replace 50% of the roster in his first 6 months on the job. Not sure “a good number of posters want to give Carmody another year.” A more accurate statement would be “a good number of posters are sensitive to Coach Carmody’s family situation, like and respect him as a human and thus aren’t getting out the torches and pitchforks.” What is posted here will have no bearing on whether or not Coach Carmody is back next year. Tearing him down here and clamoring for a new coach serves no useful purpose. His record is not what any of us hoped it would be. If the school announces he is not coming back, I will wish him well and be an active participant in the threads about the coaching search. Until then, I will remain silent on this topic. I don’t think I’m alone in my view of the situation.

To insinuate that those who want change to being insensitive to his wife's health is absolutely ludacris. Carmody is a big boy and wears big boy pants.

If we fail to win 20+ games and be in the PL Championship game next season we should make a change. A change should be made yesterday. We aren’t winning 20 games. Then make the change when that is a fact

Yeah let's give him another chance to meet the same goal he failed to come close to achieving this year. This is the kind of thinking that's driven HC athletics for the last 40 years.

It seems pretty easy to me to separate Bill Carmody’s coaching life and personal life.

Can we only criticize him on home games? What about days he runs practice? Well, since you asked. If you are at the practice and have any real observations/criticisms, by all means make them. If you are not at the practice, what can you possibly criticize about something you did not see and know little or nothing about? In that case my advice would be to remain silent.

So if he runs practice on Tuesdays, it would be ok to comment on his below average coaching record. But other non basketball days are off limits in the off chance he may read some negative reviews while he is at home with his ailing wife. We see the results of his practices. To continue to employ him is a disservice to HC and the basketball program. If you feel different, so be it.

So be it then. I am afraid I don't follow that logic (or lack thereof) of your question. What possible connection can one draw between a career coaching record and the last practice that would warrant a comment?
