Does anyone remember the Scholastic Book Club? A flyer came home each month from school and one could order cheap paperbacks. We liked books at our house so my mother supported such purchases. I had one titled "Hammerin Hank of the Braves" which was written before 1974 but which had made me a fan as he approached the milestone. I remember watching that game forty five years ago today almost as well as I remember Game 6 of the 1975 World Series. (I also had "The Baseball Life of Sandy Koufax" which piqued an interest I have had in the great lefthander that lasts until today.)

Unfairly maligned but very good player Bill Buckner is the outfielder. Immortalized in two often played videos - neither in way a player wants to be remembered

I remember hearing about the hate mail that Aaron received as he approached Ruth's mark. In our summer school we had the middle school kids put up a bulletin board following his efforts and honoring him when he hit the record. I hope we have come up a bit from the need for such a thing to offset hatred.

Vin Scully began announcing for the Brooklyn dodgers soon after he graduated from Fordham. Some consider the three man Brooklyn team of announcers the best ever trivia Name the other 2

The highest average number of home runs while Aaron played was .95 per game. Since 1994, .95 is the lowest or close to the lowest, usually the average is over 1.00 (with 2017 peaking at 1.26*).
He split his career between a hitters park and one that was not so hitter-friendly, but the entire era was less homer-frequent than today's game.
*way too early to tell about homer frequency in a season, but so far this one is keeping pace with 2017....I took a look at that after seeing game highlights where it seems like guys aren't making particularly solid contact but the ball is flying out of the park nevertheless.

Beyond him--how about Mary Glickman?

I know he was signed/recruited by Red Barber and announced with him for a short time. Was the third man Connie Desmond (a former Yankee announcer with Mel Allen)?

Trivia question #2: who was the guy who caught the ball in the bullpen? Hint: he later became known for an unorthodox coaching technique.

Looks like Desmond is correct. However, Glickman, according to what i saw on several sites, did a pre and post game show on the Dodger network.
I caught a documentary called Glickman a few years ago. Worth seeing if you haven't. Long after he was a household name doing Football Giants play-by-play on radio, he used to spend Friday nights doing TV play-by-play of metro NYC high school games! That's a person without a big ego, I'd have to say.
By the way in the movie "42", John McGinley does a great portrayal of Barber

Marty G did our Syracuse football TV game in ‘64. We used to imitate his unique cadence when saying, “and he is only a soph-o-more.” He handled with dignity being left off the Olympic relay team in Berlin because Avery Brundage disgracefully capitulated to Hitler since Glickman was Jewish. I believe he would have run on the Jesse Owens winning team.
