For those who don't remember, Morgan was an assistant at HC from 2005-07 - her first regular coaching job. Counting this new job, she has now worked at nine college programs in 16 years. Being a Vermont native, she is probably happy to be back in New England.

She's building a nice resume, as she circles back East - UConn pedigree, big-conference experience as an assistant at Arizona and elsewhere, now gets the nod to coach at a pretty successful mid-major program. She's still young - may have a career ahead worth watching..

If she does really well there - especially on the recruiting front - she could get her name into the conversation as to who succeeds Geno (assuming Chris Dailey retires at the same time, which is likely). Shea Ralph is a contender but has never been a head coach. Jen Rizzotti once was viewed as the logical successor, but the last part of her tenure at Hartford didn't go very well. And she went 10-20 at GWU this year. Tonya Cardoza, who was his #2 assistant a decade ago, has had some good seasons at Temple but also some very mediocre ones.

Chris Dailey ("CD") is a fascinating figure. How do you judge if Geno would have been just as successful with anyone as his number two or if Chris would have made any D-1 program successful with her skills no matter which head coach she was supporting? Would Geno have stepped over the line early on without CD and ended up coaching men for the rest of his career? At the very least I give CD credit for putting up with Geno all these years.

I don’t think any of the UConn alums will have the necessary resume when the time comes. My prediction is they go outside the family. Will be interesting.

Geno ought to quit right before the season starts some year so that they have to give CD the interim title and a good sized bump in pay. That would give her a big increase on her "high three years" calculation for her pension.

If he quit at any point, the job would immediately be offered to Dailey. I doubt she would accept, as she probably plans to retire when he does - but you never know. She currently is making an estimated $350,000 per year, so her pension won't be too shabby even if she never chooses to take the top job.

Dailey was the number 2 choice when Geno got the job...crazy she has been there so long.
How about Carla Berube getting the UConn gig?

Carla Berube is well qualified. She's becoming like Barbara Stevens at Bentley She has turned Tufts into a consistent national power, has National Team coaching experience and won a national title at UConn as a player. Her hiring to replace Geno would be akin to HC hiring a highly successful non D-1 football coach, Chesney, instead of choosing one of the usual suspects from among the D-1 ranks. The theory being if you can build a national power at one level you can do it at another level.

If it's like Mass. and you get the max, which in her case would be 80% of 350K; she doesn't have too much to worry about even if she lives to be 110.

Assuming she does well there, she could be the favorite to replace Geno when the time comes.

A strong hire by Princeton which has been a power in the Ivy for a long time, She's also a family woman which is nice - her wife is expecting their third child any day now.
