WORCESTER — According to sources, Scott Faucher, who guided Nichols to a historic season in 2018-19, will be the new men’s basketball coach at Assumption. Faucher, in his one season with the Bison, led the team to a program-record 28 victories and an appearance in the NCAA Division 3 Elite Eight. Nichols, which finished 28-3, also set a program record for winning percentage (.903). Nichols captured its third straight Commonwealth Coast Conference championship and ranked No. 8 in the final D3hoops.com poll. At Assumption, Faucher will replace Michael Harding, who was fired March 1, after going 28-81 in four seasons. Before Nichols, Faucher spent four years as the full-time assistant at Bowdoin. During that time, the Bears went 57-39 and produced a NESCAC Player of the Year and NESCAC Rookie of the Year. Faucher, a 2013 graduate of Wheaton, began his collegiate coaching career at St. Michael’s, which, like Assumption, is a member of the Northeast-10 Conference.

This guy is GOOD. I have seen his "finished product" and could see him running the Chesney route to Holy Cross. For anyone who happened to see Nichols league championship game at the Hart Center, you almost can't get any further from Carmody's style of play. The Hart Center would be packed again. Good move by Assumption.

A little surprised by this hire. He inherited a loaded Bison team. That being said they had a great run and it's a great opportunity to wake up a long-dormant program. NE-10 is a tough conference, he has some work to do.

Assumption throws nickels around like they were manhole covers, so I wonder how many years, if any were left on the previous coach's contract? Amazing that Coach Faucher is a 2013 college graduate and he is now at the helm of a storied New England basketball program. Youth must be served. AC is following the same playbook as when they hired Coach Chesney and that worked out well. Reminds me of the moniker of a hilarious caller to the old "whiner line" on WEEI, "Man on the way up." I hope Coach Faucher can turn things around for the Greyhounds. Maybe the Assumption AD had an advantage over a D-2 program in Minnesota or California and used it to get value because the coach does not have to uproot himself or his family to take the job. In any case this is exciting for Assumption, congratulations to them. I hope our (mythical so far) next permanent AD is paying attention.
