Who was the woman emcee? I did not see Fr. B., was he there? Nice audio when it was fixed, I hope the PLN/Stadium volume has a broader range for this season's games.
What?

I like the fact that he aspires to play m2m. Not sure he'll be able to do it right away, but it's a worthy ambition.

I liked the fact that he is going to be seen on campus.
Made me think of Rick Carter when he was hired. I remember Coach Carter coming to the speak to my dorm to answer questions and to rally the students to come to the games. I believe he visited every dorm at the time and did the same thing

Would love to know if CBC’s assistants will be hitting the recruiting sites this weekend or if BN has any assistants of his own yet

The remaining reporter for the Boston Herald was there. Perhaps Crusader Basketball still matters. Very enthused for this season. Strong and wrong more fun to watch than weak and right during the rebuilding phase. Goal should be to get to strong and right during our window of time with BN.

“Number 1 candidate right from the beginning.” Interesting. Why interesting rgs ? If he was the number one candidate from the beginning, why the need for a “national search?”

“Number 1 candidate right from the beginning.” Interesting. Why interesting rgs ? MB didn't read Crossports. The search firm may have identified candidates early on, but once they did, MB took the baton and ran with it. Did not get a mention at the press conference. Stan Grayson did, though, as did Rick Patterson, chair of the BoT..

I believe I heard a Providence reporter asked a question also.

Tolerating "strong and wrong" will be a great confidence booster for our guys, who won't be always looking over their shoulders to see if they're gonna get yanked after making a mistake. That will be a refreshing change.

Nice press conference Nelson said all the right things. Too bad no questions about staff. Time to hit the road and upgrade the talent level in the program.

Some/all? of the assistants were at the press conference and were acknowledged. They should be under contract for 2019-20, as the contract period started July 1.

Once again, more time than questions asked. I do wish they asked about his staff (current or new additions) since he referred to them collectively.

If he was the number one candidate from the beginning, why the need for a “national search?” He "found" him during the national search. Seems pretty clear from their bios that they had no prior relationship.
I took "from the beginning" to mean that Nelson emerged early in the process. (I've got a strong suspicion that they were introduced via the search firm, Parker.)

It was good to know that Bill Carmody was there. He has taken a lot of criticism on this site and could have easily been been down at the Jersey Shore.I am sure he will help during BN's transition and work to keep the players on the team.

The HC position was obviously open before 7/1. HC could easily have deferred renewals, or offered a one-month bridge renewal for July while allowing Nelson to make decisions, etc.
I think if it were a done deal that any of the assistants were staying, that would have been announced today. IIRC, that was the case when Kearney was hired.

I agree, generally. MB said he had been thinking about the qualities he wanted in a head basketball coach for 22 years, and I think from the get-go he wanted a coach from Div I. MB stressed he wanted a coach who could recruit nationally

When Kevin Driscoll was retained, did Carmody announce that at his opening presser ?

Seriously doubt that all or even most are under contract for 19-20. Hoops, if you remember CBG's contract, it ended on June 30th. Employment contracts with the college are typically for a one year period which begins and ends with the fiscal year. If BN has already either or spoken to all the players, he surely has met with the assistants. If I was an assistant and was told, 'bo contract for you', would I show up for the presser?

I also like the energy level and overall positive tone in this thread. Anyone else sense an energy similar to Coach Chesney?

Employment contracts with the college are typically for a one year period which begins and ends with the fiscal year. Yes, you keep saying that, but not acknowledging that this situation is in no way typical.
Putting a finer point on it: in the latter days of June, why on earth would interim AD Sullivan or incoming AD Blossom tender contract renewals to the current assistants when they were just kicking off the national search for the guy who would be their boss? Having those assistants locked up could legitimately be a negative to a prospective hire.
If they do have contracts in place, that's likely because they were finalized before Carmody's retirement... which is certainly possible. But no AD was going to renew those contracts after Carmody announced his retirement.
