Admitting JUCOs...might as well close Colgate and rescind their charter. How can they allow such riff raft in...

According to the link, the Junior College kid is coming in as a Freshman No, he is entering as a junior. You may be looking at the "F" beside his name, which stands for Forward. Langel has thrived on transfers since he arrived. Those I can think of off the top of my head: - Murphy Burnatowski - Damon Sherman-Newsome (Juco) - Ethan Jacobs- - Austin Tillotson - Jordan Swopshire - Tom Rivard - Rapolas Ivanauskas - Nelly Cummings (eligible this year) It has been easy for Colgate (and American) to grab transfers because so many of their players transfer out if they aren't seeing playing time. EDITED to add Nelly Cummings, who I forgot about since he had to sit this past season.

This is a large class, but at best its quality remains to be seen:
- Malcolm Bailey committed on May 15th of this year. Had a couple of offers from a year ago that had likely been pulled. - Blaike Henry was a good but not great juco player. VC shows no other offers for him. - Ryan Moffatt committed to Colgate in the late signing period of 2018 but had to agree to do a PG year first. He had no other offers at that time - as he was completing his senior year in HS. - Pearson Parker had no other offers per VC despite being a 5th year PG player, and committed to Colgate right at the start of the late signing period. He was decent at Exeter but not great by any means. - Keegan Records, despite being in his 5th year of HS, had only one other D1 offer (Binghamton). Despite Langel's accolades, he was not a particularly great HS or prep player. He signed with them after the late signing period had begun.

Yes, that is Nelly Cummings who sat out last year. Should be a starter this year, which allows their players to move into their more normal positions. The players did pretty well last year in their abnormal positions. Why mess with success ? Because they graduated the two guys who manned the center position: Dana Batt and Malcolm Regisford. That allows Ivanauskas to move back to center, Rayman to move to his normal PF, and Tucker Richardson to move to his normal SF spot. Note that those players did play those positions at some points when Colgate made subs. Of their eight rotation players last year, seven played all 34 games - and Burns just missed a few games in late January. If they manage to again avoid injuries, they should be stronger than last year.

Bringing back their top five scorers and adding quality recruits on top of that sounds like a recipe for success. (The fact that they can attract quality transfers and move on from recruits that can’t contribute are two more admirable qualities of the school and staff.)

. (The fact that they can attract quality transfers and move on from recruits that can’t contribute are two more admirable qualities of the school and staff.) The latter is more of a critique of Colgate. I don't think Langel is running off any recruits. I am fairly sure that the recruits who left just didn't like their overall experience at Colgate very well. In any event, it definitely helps Langel. Speaking solely from the perspective of Bucknell basketball success, I am a big jealous since Bucknell has never had a scholarship player leave due to playing time. We have had a number stay for four years even though they almost never played.

Where did the Colgate guys transfer to D-1 or D-2, were they successful at new school? In general don't think that players who are non contributors at our level are going to have a lot of success at another D-1 school.

In general don't think that players who are non contributors at our level are going to have a lot of success at another D-1 school. They all went D3 or stopped playing. That gave Langel about five extra scholarships to play with. Had they opted to stay and were content to rarely play, he wouldn't have been able to land some of the transfers that he got. All were starters for him, and all but one made All-PL.

Very fortunate indeed when your recruiting misses remove themselves from the picture and give you a redo.

Only a little, I guess, but there are a lot of potential transfers who might have had Bucknell in their sights had there been available scholarships. As it is, Bucknell has only had two outgoing transfers, and each came at the same time as a coaching search was going on so that there wasn't any real opportunity to attract a transfer. Colgate has had at least nine scholarship transfers under Langel. The one PL school that probably has them beat would be American, who has had at least 16 in the past 11 seasons: Laurynas Motuzis, Cheikh Diallo, Matt Cimino, LeonTolksdorf, Paris Maragkos, Kevin Panzer, Pee Wee Gardner, Austin Carroll, Charles Hinkle, Troy Brewer, Vlad Moldoveanu, Frank Borden, Bryce Simon, Frane Markusovic, Cornelio Guibunda, Constantin Motnii.,

Have a hard time generating any sympathy for the uneven playing field the Bison are competing with.
