Wow, does he solve mysteries in his spare time like The Hardy Boys? Geez, I just hope we all let him breathe a bit when he gets to Worcester, and not go off the deep end if he doesn't go for 25 in his debut.

Wow, does he solve mysteries in his spare time like The Hardy Boys? Sounds like more of a Chip Hilton type to me, perhaps a combination of all of them

I believe Clair Bee was a coach--I think at Kansas???
Edit: okay--I made my guess and then checked and found out I was dead wrong on the school. So the more knowledgeable posters can now weigh in

Love the avatar. I still have the entire Chip Hilton series (except for the very last volume) in the bookcase in my den.

God, do I feel old when the author of the Chip Hilton books is a trivia question. Where in the name of Speed Morris and Taps Browning have the years gone?

"Fiery Fullback" is a later-day story by a ghost author.
I'm missing "Hungry Hurler," #23 and last in the original series. A few years ago I bought #22 ("Home Run Feud") on eBay from a woman in Iowa who bought it at a garage sale (and made a handsome profit when I paid her $110 for it). "Hungry Hurler" was available on eBay for a while, but I just felt I could not cough up the dough (it was just under $500).

Wikipedia suggests that Fiery Fullback is an authentic Clair Bee manuscript that his children brought to the publisher years after Coach Bee died.......l

You may be right, KY. I'll have to check that out.
And thanks, W-Gray, for the reference to copies of #23 available for sale. Worth considering.
