I believe that the staff has seen him extensively as has Tom Konchalski, whom you may denigrate, but if you do any research, you will see Tom's judgment is highly thought of by many of the top college coaches: ex. K, Izzo, Wright, Pitino, Calipari, Pearl, R Williams, Crean, Boeheim, et al.

Who is Tom konchalski? Look last year we were so shot in the behind over our freshman even to the point of someone saying w Powers would take minutes from Anthony Thompson. Let's at least wait for these guys to arrive on campus before we get too carried away. My last comment I hope the kid is a superstar and makes us forget Buddy Venne.

What is wrong about getting a little jacked up about recruits? Fans of about 350 other D1 schools do the same thing. It's what fans do. No one has to be taken seriously. In the long run, we're all dead.

You mean he shoots like the guys we have? That ain't so good. Ask coach Carmody. No. As I said, he shoots FTs better than most of our guys.

Any insight into why Navy was his only other offer? With his numbers and positive evaluations from guys like Tom K, who certainly know what they're doing (or maybe just he knows what he's doing in this day of player scouting), it just feels like competition should have been tougher for him.

Tom evaluates, usually does not follow the offers of most players

You weren't on the old board, but there we had a former poster tell us a signee (J. Proctor) was our best recruit since the 1970's.

I am not too concerned over his three point percentage going down this year as compared to last year. No doubt opposing coaches weren't going to let him beat them with the three, and well covered him outside the three point line. He found ways to score other ways. The guy can shoot and play, and I love that he played football in PA. You know he is a tough competitor.

AB is 1 of only 2 players in the last 10 years who have finished in the top 2 WPIAL scorers two years in a row. He was second last season, first this one at 30 ppg.

Good thought, but the article is on Philly.com and I don't think thats in the WPIAL - Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League.

McConnell played high school ball in the WPIAL, at Chartiers Valley HS, near Pittsburgh.

I think you're right, 8485 - good sleuthing. Bio says he led the WPIAL in scoring both junior and senior year - mentions he broke McConnell's record for threes. In fact, looks like Mason may have been brought to Duquesne (he started at Drake) to replace McConnell as the PG.
