The QB cannot underthrow a receiver on a deep route, particularly when the receiver has two steps on the defender and is breaking clear. If the pass had been anywhere near on target, that was six points.
Yale successfully made coaching adjustments at half time. HC did not.

Pards down 19-0 v Albany. Respectable thus far. Colgate lost. CAA sweep? Fordham’s the last hope for the PL.

Murphy needs to have play calling privileges stripped of him. This still has the potential to be a pretty good season thanks to the defense. Let’s not have the OC ruin it. Chesney is the one who installed and decided on the offensive scheme.

Beginning to think that Chesney as an in game coach doesn’t have what it takes at this level.

Yale is much better. Just a fact. The game plan was still just a mystery and this game was just plain dull.
It’s just FCS football. A diversion for a fall weekend.

Couldn't agree more. It is mind boggling to watch teams exclusively employ the shotgun and eschew a short yardage package in situations when it obviously is called for.

Attendance is nevah improving at the FCS-level (particularly in the Northeast)....I'm just hoping it doesn't bottom out completely at this point.

Poor result of that review The ball crossed the goal line, therefore it’s a touchback. No, IIRC it did not touch the ground and breaking the plain in that case is not automatically a touchback, since the ball is not in anyone's possession.

Yale is much better. Just a fact. “Much” better? Have to disagree. Swap QBs and OCs and HC wins this game. HC’s defense is better than Yale’s and we have superior coaching on that side of the ball. Simply cannot look at yards against only. HC does not know how to “possess” the football on offense. NO game management. NO rhythm. Poor decision making on the RPO. Many, many open fields in front of QB that were not exploited. To win these games you have to keep their best players off the field. In this case, our defense was doing a great job “managing” Dudek, the tough receiver and their QB. We just couldn’t get any first downs to keep them off the field. Overall, we had better kicking and special teams play (save for the very poor decision to pooch kick after our TD). Our D played solid. I am not saying we win 8 times out of 10 but I did not see the big talent disparity some others saw. This was a winnable game.

HC passing: 10-27, 145 net yards. On a perfect football day.
HC rushing 92 net yards, on 27 attempts. 54 of those yards were on a run by Forrest, leading to HC's score.
HC had 11 first downs, two by penalty.
Yale had 270 yards more in total offense than HC, and ran 28 more plays.
In three games, HC has 218 net rushing yards, and if one takes away today's 54 yard scamper, is averaging 55 rushing yards per game.
In three games, HC has two offensive TDs.

No, IIRC it did not touch the ground and breaking the plain in that case is not automatically a touchback, since the ball is not in anyone's possession. I think the NFL and NCAA have different rules here. In the NCAA, once the ball crosses the plane of the goal line, it is a touchback. In the NFL, players can bat a ball back into play that has already crossed the plane as long as their feet don’t touch the end zone first.

Someone please compile our total number of 3 and outs - atrocious 11 drives today — not counting the one at the end of the half. Eight three and outs. Bring Mike Pedone back to call plays. Pedone’s last commission check was more than his salary at HC. 😃

Went to the game today. Defense played its collective heart out on a hot day in New Haven. Offense was very disappointing. I know Yale may be the best FCS team we’ll play all year but we need to do better than what we saw today. We had two decent possessions. One early that led to the play where we decided to go wildcat on the two foot line and turned it over and the one in the 4th where Forrest had the nice run and then CD and Ayeni had the nice pitch and catch for the TD. Other than that, it was a complete dumpster fire. Don’t know whether it’s talent or play-calling or what but we really need to do something different soon. Someone has to tell me why we can’t EVER try to play power football and get out of the bleeping shotgun on short-yardage plays. We were on the two-foot line for the love of Pete. And the false start when CD ran up like he was going to go under center for the first time all year was terrible. What the hell are we doing?
Can we not mix in some freaking smash-mouth football with these guys?

I am curious based upon a previous comment. What is Chesney's salary? Is it a lot less than Gilmore's was? How much did the school save when hiring Chesney?
