Coach E 21, Washington 21 - halftime. Second game that THE MOUNT has played a big boy school very tough. Engelstad married a HC grad; wait a couple years - he is going to be a star. Don’t think he’ll jump ship after one year at the Mount. He had a rebuild job there, and had them playing well by the end of the season, after a great run at SVT. SOV response: Hard pass on coach e. Well maybe just a soft pass would do when we were considering coaching candidates.

Coach E 21, Washington 21 - halftime. Second game that THE MOUNT has played a big boy school very tough. MSM ended up losing 56-46. They were even on the boards and in turnovers. Had they not shot 9-33 (27%) on 2-point attempts they might have had a shot for the win. They had the lead with 12 minutes left.

Evansville takes down UK 67-64 at Rupp. Walter McCarty is the coach of Evansville Wasn't he interested in the HC job when he was an assistant with the Celtics - both when MB and BC were hired?

WooGray's guy, Pat Skerry, trailing by a possession in the final minute to Florida.
He really is a great coach who has done a nice job at Towson.
Was he available after Kearney and Brown? As a Mass guy, looks like he'd have been a home run hire in hindsight.

With a good coach right now, is anyone still looking? ...or caring...about past decisions?

I looked it up and Skerry was available after we had fired FCSK.

With a good coach right now, is anyone still looking? ...or caring...about past decisions? Some fans of college basketball -- not just HC -- may think about stuff like this. We're a weird bunch.

RGS while I'm very hopeful that Nelson's the right guy at this point he's a first year coach who's still looking for his first win so I think it's a little early to determine whether he's a good coach or not. After the last ten years of futility I need to see positive results on the floor before giving a stamp of approval to any coach.

The guy has the right approach to the game and is a personality fit for the school and the Worcester community. As the team begins to grow defensively, I predict many, beyond those inclined to support him today, will say we have a terrific coach for where we are in the world of basketball. While some of his players will surpass the expectations of many on the board, I predict he will deliver well beyond what has been achieved over the past decade

Wow. I am honestly surprised that my post got so many responses. I guess it hit a nerve. With some of the issues that come up again and again (the Big East for example) I now think of the posts rehashing it as the comments one hears from a slightly eccentric trip uncle at family gatherings. He needs to retell his story (for the umpteenth time) and everyone just listens and thinks that's just him. No harm, no foul. I too am a bit reluctant to believe we may have finally found the right person for this job and to rebuild HC hoops. However, I do like the product he is giving us, the way the team is coming together, and the hope it give me for the future. I believe the first win, whenever it comes, will be electric for these players. The signing of LOIs by our three recruits was certainly positive. They could be great compliments to the last recruits from FHCBC. Or, since this is HC and "stuff" seems to happen here on a regular basis, things may not pan out as we expect. I am pulling for the former. Perhaps it is just me, but I seem to see a reduction in the "friction" in posts this year. I try to put myself in the place of the person making the post to help me understand all that is there. Thanks to all for b ing a part of CROSSPORTS. Meanwhile...GO CROSS.

To possum's point, HCBN may be very good, but we have also lost to teams ranked 313 and 279 by KenPom, so it's still very early to pass any judgment one way or the other. That said, I like the style and energy we are playing with much more than past years, and the freshmen class is quite encouraging.

RGS318. I think that the reduction in friction that you sense is 1) a genuine attempt by most posters to give HCBN a chance to implement his system and style of play, particularly in view of JF’s graduation and the departures of JG and CG, 2) a response to good moments that we’ve already seen from the sophomores and freshmen, 3) enthusiasm for the potential of the first 3 HCBN recruits and 4) a general feeling that the former approach (little to no MTM defense, lack of emphasis on rebounding, a limited possession offense) wasn’t working so that trying a different style is worth a shot.
While the jury is certainly still out on HCBN, as it is in football with HCBC, I am optimistic that when we look back in several years, we’ll be pleased with both hires.

Good game going on at Chestnut Hill, Belmont leads by 4 at half both teams playing very well offensively. Tyler Scanlon playing for Belmont. Interesting to note that after losing to 1-3 Merrimack, Northwestern beat Providence.
