Why does Holy Cross Archives just leave 8mm/16mm reels, tapes, and DVD's sitting in boxes on campus? Why hasn't the archives department made an effort to transfer highlight tapes/historic games to Youtube and other digital platforms for former alums?
My Dad and I just organized a reunion for his alma mater (Div II school) and surprisingly, they had already digitized all of their former yearbooks, historic photos, and games. This "digital archive" could then be used as a resource for alumni events and reacingh out to former alums with a personalized touch.
I know this is a little off topic for this week's game, but I think Holy Cross could have a lot more success with athletic fundraising if they showed just a little effort. Utilizing the Patriot League Championship along with a digital archive, could create a windfall of new donors and money for the program.

All's it takes is effort.
They have film reels of games from the 20s hidden away.

I think the job of digitizing and publishing this old stuff would be a perfect summer internship.

Unfortunately, the longer it sits the less of a chance that it can be digitized. These things are important for the building of the brand and fundraising. It's really a no brainer for HC and should be a priority.
Who would be the best person to talk to that could green light something like this?

Why doesn't the Holy Cross Hall of Fame show clips at the induction and online? If you digitize everything now, it makes everything ten times easier down the road.
These are simple thing that could make a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE.

At a future time, you could incorporate playing digital footage and fight songs throughout the Luth. It's a 97 million dollar initiative that could be elevated exponentially by sharing the legacy of the Holy Cross brand....

Archives doesn't make any financial decisions and does not care about athletics. Talking to them is like talking to the librarian at the local library.

All it probably takes is a lead donor...…….

Good idea... take it to AD Blossom, add the project to the Crusader Fund list.
there have been some recent retirements in the small Archives Dept.
CrossWorks is the digital repository for material that is already digitized

Figure out the cost of digitizing each film and ask for folks to sponsor one game. (That's how they do it for flag restoration at the Museum of the Confederacy and it has accomplished a huge amount.) It also can create strong links for that person and his/her friends to HC.

Quite right...but even in a local library it can be surprising what talking to the contact person with respect can accomplish.

I'll take John Provost's epic game against Brown, Joe Wilson's 274 yards against Rutgers, and our fantastic upset at Air Force which I attended.

Maybe try Mark Savolis '77 if he is still archivist:

Some idea of the cost. I think these costs presume the film is in fair/good condition. www.scancafe.com/pricing/filmpricecomparisonThis is an archived video of Dartmouth's 1990 season. Game @ Fitton at 21:30 mark. Gives some idea of quality of old color video. ^^^ HC game appears to be excerpted from a Channel 3 broadcast.

About 80% of the tackles in 1990 would be targeting in 2019... haha. The good ole days right before the PC era took over.

I was thrilled when we installed the banner around the football stadium and established the Ring of Honor. To a student in the 2000's, the trophy case at the Hart was about the only connection we had to history other than talking to Fr. K (which was always a delight). It almost appeared as if we were purposely ignoring our proud athletic history. I think we have discovered some digitized films on Youtube in some earlier posts.

Geez, the offense in 1990 was as bad as 2019 if you go by that film. Hard to believe that team ended up 9-1-1.
