Fitton needs a lot of work. It's really starting to show it's age. NOW is the time to shake the tree and get some funds. New locker rooms can be shared with baseball and softball to spread the benefits.

New locker rooms can be shared with baseball and softball to spread the benefits. I meant to hit quote rather than like. Not that gks suggestion doesn't have merit, but my guesstimate is that HC will be spending between $60-80 million on new and renovated residence halls, plus a new Jesuit residence, and that will be the spending priority for much of the next decade.

Not to mention ADA compliance requirements on the stadium structure.

I find it very hard to believe that hard up front costs for the size of video boards the Hart could accommodate would be a mil a piece. They're basically very large TV's. Outdoor is a different story. I said the same thing to Nate and he explained to me that the bulk of the cost was not the boards themselves but the extensive wiring that is required to hook them up.

If you want to have a successful athletic program fund raising for athletic projects must be separated from dorms and an apartment building for the Jesuits.

Not to mention ADA compliance requirements on the stadium structure. I think that someone explained here in an earlier post there are ways to circumvent ADA. Doubt the video board would be attached to the stadium.

The old trough style latrines in the men's room behind the visitor's side stands were replaced with modern facilities. And they closed down the refreshment stand underneath the large end zone bleachers.

Charming and Historic. Perhaps it was more labor intensive to keep them clean and sanitary, but they reminded me of the old fixtures at Fenway Park years ago.

That bare bones building isn't much older than the rebuilt Fitton, believe it got put up at the beginning of the Carter era (the visiting team used to dress in the bowels of Kimball). Either that or the bathrooms were there before that and they tacked the dressing room onto that structure. I can't imagine anyone buying troughs even in the 1980s....but it appears Holy Cross did. Don't forget too the pressbox is nearly original equipment and, from all accounts, a disgrace. Would be nice if it got condemned and they had to do something about it.

For all of you feeling nostalgic for a trough, was at the Brown game earlier this year, don't know about the other facilities there, but men's room visitor side still has one!

Pathetic and pitiful might be more appropriate.

BTW - Since this is Thanksgiving week, upon seeing the trough, I was thankful that my tetanus shot was up to date in case there were any accidents, but was wishing I had a prophylactic dose of antibiotics!

Hope when Fitton does finally get renovated, we can reduce seating but keep the grand scale and close the open end in some way.

How about with a building with locker room/meeting rooms and a Jumbotron on the roof?

That would be the play, I would think.

How about with a building with locker room/meeting rooms and a Jumbotron on the roof? Where? No room in open end zone. Closed end zone makes most sense but now you have to knock down stands which triggers the ADA requirements which means you add millions and millions on top of a project that will already cost Millions which is on top of the hundreds of millions the school has spent in the last five years on various capital projects.

I was thinking two new locker rooms on either corner of the end zone and just a wall to close it in with a scoreboard on top. You could leave it detached from the main stands and maybe not trigger ADA. The existing locking rooms could be used for other purposes.

People talk like making ADA improvements to Fitton is bad. The place is antiquated and dangerous especially in wet weather. Improvements need to be made. That stadium is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Just look how long it took to put railings in the aisles.
Fitton Field is the front porch of the college. Weather you're an athlete or not it's the first thing prospective students see when they arrive on campus (unless you live in Auburn!). It needs work badly.

I see it in the open end two locker/meeting rooms with a corridor (or wall if you like) running between them and put the Jumbotron on top.

This is Monmouth's stadium. Jumbotron on the right. No lights. 800 seatbacks (presumably the blue section, nut that doesn't look like 800 if seatbacks are the blue section only).. Renovated and looks to be ADA compliant. To my eye, Monmouth made it compliant by sacrificing a large section of prime seating at the 50 yard line. The weird, white square in the middle looks to be a platform leading from elevators, and providing access to spaces reserved for wheelchair viewing.

Since Fitton Field is used so rarely and actually functions 'as is' I don't see us spending much cash down there. I thought it was ugly back in the early 80's and I still think so.
Dream scenario is we blow it up (IMHO it is beyond 'renovation' and 'improvements' ) and put in a nice looking and modern 10K stands w/lights, turf, jumbotron, seat backs, press box, lockers, etc. 9K seating on one side and 1K seating on the other. No running track - - keep the stands as close to the action as possible. There is a reason so many schools have gone to this model. And then try to Pack the House!
