UMass' womens program has struggled in recent years, much like their men's program- I don't want to attach too much significance to this game but with our weak ooc schedule, I'd like to see us beat one more team from a conference stronger than ours (BC being the first) - i once though Manis was a marginally 'All-American' caliber player but i just have not seen the consistency from her against some very mediocre competition - she has not progressed since her great soph season (I'm not saying she has regressed either). With four of the top 7 players being seniors this is the year for us because next year will be a 're-build' regardless of who is coaching

HC up 36-32 at the half - Manis struggling again, 2 of 10 from the field will be a tough 2nd half without her contribution- we miss Demski in these games

UMass 13-2 run. Time to regroup and snare the Rte. 9 trophy.

UMass center Donnelly has nine blocks. At 6'5" she blocked a Manis drive anfmd caused turnover without appearing to leave her feet. What a wing span. 54-51 Minutewomen at end of third quarter.

54-51 UMass after 3 We’ve been outscored 45-33 over 2nd and 3rd quarters - we didn’t have energy against URI in the 4th qtr. what will happen here ?

"The Noble Train of Artillery" was the expedition led by General Knox to haul heavy weaponry captured by the Continental Army at Fort Ticonderoga in upstate NY all the way to fortify Dorchester Heights in Boston against the British Fleet during the brutal winter of 1775-76, much of the way without roads.
Rte. 9 between Amherst and Worcester follows the Knox Trail and many 200 year old stone posts note that in the towns between.
A "Knox Trail Trophy" would make as much sense as the "Turnpike Trophy" but perhaps we have one unattainable trophy too many now until we ramp up our competitiveness.

75-72 loss. Can’t have many more 5 for 27 fg games from our two sr bigs - Manis 5 of 20 and swords 0 for 7 We showed some spunk in the 4th qtr but too late The jury is out on coach Mac

Pedi three point shot goes in at buzzer, but UMass prevails by three points. UMass has great length. HC has little depth.

NOTHING from MS.....as usual. If she makes two gimmees, HC might have won. Unfair to our other players. They will not pass it to her even when she's posted up with no one else around her. That's their level of confidence in her. Nothing personal. I'm sure she's a wonderful young lady. But we play these games to win.....DON"T WE?

Donnelly for six-five appeared athletic and fluid. Maybe she altered some passes that would have been made to Megan vs Lilliputian U.

BB head coach being an employee at will? WBB doesn't generate the revenue to justify a guaranteed contract imo. The arrangement we have now is workable and doesn't box HC in.

How many layups did the UMass guards have? (answer: a lot) Manis appears to be as frustrated as TB.

This is ancient thinking. Good way to get pitchforks and torches on someone's doorstep. How much revenue you think the men's program is bringing in these days? Funny, after looking at the impressive but almost empty USD arena last night I was thinking of making this post: "HC's visitor's cut of ticket sales should pay for airfare and hotel cost for this trip." I know both teams lose money but MBB generates more revenue. Perhaps a long term contract with opportunity for either side to buy out early for a reasonably modest amount is the best we can do. What are your thoughts on the Men's hockey head coach contract?

IMO Berard should not have been extended. I wouldn't given McInerney a long term deal either. She is an interim coach. I don't know what the particulars of Title IX is in regards to coaching contracts.

There likely would be major Title IX issues if that arrangement continued indefinitely. To begin, it would make it almost impossible for the women's coach to recruit with potential players knowing she might be gone the next day. And then there is the obvious inequity of the whole arrangement. As it is, colleges have been able to get away with paying their women's coaches far less as long as the revenues generated are also far less and/or if the competitive landscape requires them to pay the men's coaches more. But I think to not even give a women's coach a reasonable contract would be going too far. Btw, I imagine Nelson is making 3x what McInerney is, so the two definitely aren't being treated the same.

Gibbons didn’t make anything like what Carmody made and neither did Gilmore or Chesney. The men’s basketball coach has always been the 300 pound gorilla when it comes to coaches salaries.
RW was the highest paid employee at HC.
