I have been following HC hoops for 57 years. Never have I perceived less interest in Holy Cross basketball as now.
Shocking really

Don’t get huge disappointment mixed up with lack of interest.

Come on; have you ever seen the Board this quiet??!! It may not rival the Duke Message Board for posts but it is in line with our peers such as Bucknell, Siena, Fairfield and William and Mary, boards I visit here and there.

Exam week—no games to discuss and we’re too depressed to rehash the last game

For me I’m just not sure what to say.
The program is in flux regarding speculation on who will be here in Jan and who won’t.
They have won one game this year with two historic losses.
It’s one of those years that there isn’t much to say good and don’t want to gripe about the obvious.
The great thing about hoops is that it can turn with 1/2 recruiting classes. It’s all about talent.
Looking forward to year 2 of Nelson regime.
That said if they can all get healthy and compete in the PL that will be an added bonus. Just hope the three promising Frosh stick it through this rough time.
This is just my point of view

They tend to feast off of one another, don't they? The problem is that it took years if not decades to build up, and about ten years to rather quickly erode. It's kind of like a reputation for a politician-- steadily building over a lifetime of service, and even so, dubious at best... and one scandal brings it tumbling down.
It wasn't long ago that I was forced to sit up in the rafters at Hart as a freshman while they played Princeton. Now, I could basically walk out to the free throw line and take two of them (would probably constitute 33% of the total the team would take that night) and barely anybody would notice.

Nothing like quality, data-driven analysis. There were 100+ users active right after the UMass-Boston loss. People are still around and reading. There are only so many ways to say "this team is not good", especially when there is no (well, no reasonable) corollary discussion about the future of the coach or AD.
Personally, I'm playing the long game here. I'm looking forward to CBS showing the graphic of our 3-year transformation under Coach Nelson during our NCAA game in March 2022, with the obligatory caption "Full Nelson". (And of course, the associated hand-wringing about him being linked to every power conference job that might open up that year... because we're incapable of actually just enjoying success when we find it.)

Ray, I like the way you think!
I must confess that I am growing tired of people speculating about who swill leave or sign on to the portal...as if they are trying to get folks to do it. My bet is that all those on the team right now (December) will be here in January. If someone knows something, please share it. If you know nothing about any imminent changes, please keep quiet.
dharry13: "The program is in flux regarding speculation on who will be here in Jan and who won’t." In what way is that the case?

I've seen speculation regarding scholarship counts, people opining that the roster might change, etc on this board. Simply bringing that to light.
The kids who want to be here will be here and those that want to leave won't. Nelson will build it his way.
What gives me hope is the AD is certainly a basketball guy. Of all the sports he is most in touch with it's hoops as he played at Northeastern, and was in programs at a high hoops level. I personally believe we are in good hands with Blossom in regards to the turnaround of the basketball program as well.
RGS - the post wasn't intended to drum up any negativity or speculation. Simply answering the question in my own thoughts/words regarding the lack of interest at this current time. My interest is just in a current state of hibernation.

When you are more than 50 games under .500 since the 2009-10 season, it's understandable that people will lose interest.
Regan, Pine, Kearney, Brown, and Carmody were unable to right this ship, so let's hope Blossom and Nelson are able to get this thing jumpstarted again.

I just think back to the Raynor era................... Raynor, at least, left Willard with some decent pieces. Nelson is basically reconstructing a program from total scratch.

In the NFL, as the Big Tuna Bill Parcells said, you are what your record says you are. But in college hoops in December that isn't as true. College teams get a second season and it wouldn't surprise me if HC gets stronger during the PL schedule and ends the year on a more positive note.

Hope might not be a strategy but it is what gives life to dreams!
Go HC and may Coach Nelson and the team realize all of their dreams and benefit from the prayers offered by all of those on the board that continue to search for answers and championships 🏀🏀🏀✝️✝️✝️☘️ during this season filled with compassion, love for others and perhaps some divine intervention.
Merry Christmas 🎄🎄🎄
