Lehigh over Loyola, 18-14, midway through first half. Kostecka hasn't played.

/\ Crutches and a boot most of last game made this game a virtual lock to be Kostecka-less.
Loyola goes down yesterday (74-71 to Lehigh at Loyola). They looked pretty lost most of the game (without their floor leader and leading scorer) but did turn it on a bit at the end. Aldama did go 20 pts., 8 rebs, and 3 blocks in the losing effort. (Karnik looked very strong for Lehigh) No idea if Kostecka will return for game one (at Lehigh).

I think Aldama will be a great player in this league, but he likely needs to break off his torrid romance with the three. He's taken almost half his shots beyond the arc - went 1-8 yesterday from there, and is a lowly 12-54 (22%) overall

I'd love to see him make 3's... hasten his NBA aspirations?

He's taken almost half his shots beyond the arc - went 1-8 yesterday from there, and is a lowly 12-54 (22%) overall He was a successful outside bomber (and MVP) on his Spanish National (under 19) team. As part of a run and gun offense. Here in the PL the obvious mismatch is his speed/height/finesse over PL bigs. A subtle point but his skills are such that he rarely fouls (yesterday 2 personal fouls and 3 blocks...what sort of a gifted tall shot blocker PL frosh rarely fouls?). He’s also the leading rebounder for Loyola. The 6’11” frosh is almost unstoppable on drives/fast breaks (the bulk of yesterday’s 20 points) v PL but prefers to bomb. Heck, given his body type there is no NBA without great outside bombing. Either he’s rusty or PL outside defenders close on him faster than Euro D’s or he was a lucky shooter in Spain. The Loyola coach is hoping it is the first (although it may be a bit of the second too).

/\ Don't know any of his stats (shooting or otherwise) from his various Spanish teams. If interested you can watch his 2019 Spanish U-18 (I thought it was U19...he turned 19 in January of this year) Euro Champion MVP highlights, lots of outside bombing and some drives/fast breaks:

Hopefully he transfers or returns to Spain to play professionally after a couple of years in Baltimore.

Is last year's Spanish three point line at the same place as this year's NCAA three point line?

The Loyola coach is hoping it is the first (although it may be a bit of the second too)." Would think it'll go up from there as he gets older and stronger. No wonder 247 was shocked he would up at Loyola after watching that very same tournament (my clip and your stats): EVALUATING COLLEGE PROSPECTS
Santi Aldama, PF, Spain:
This was quite simply one of the biggest college-bound international steals in quite a while. There are very few programs nationally which would turn down a talent like Aldama so the fact he will be playing college basketball in the Patriot League was a constant talking point amongst NBA scouts and college coaches. Aldama has good size a four man and okay length and athleticism, but a versatile skill set. He can knock down threes, take bigger post defenders off the bounce and is a plus rebounder on both sides of the court. Aldama has a high feel and a frame that isn’t close to filling out. He should be a high level producer early into his college career. Aldama was named MVP of the event after averaging 18 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists a game. (Note: my underline...it is amazing how the rest of their writeup is very accurate.)

A team that shot 35% from three would be in the top 100. His three-point rate in FIBA was consistent with his rate in play this year - whether taking half his shots deep is in the best interest of his team going forward remains to be seen.

Is last year's Spanish three point line at the same place as this year's NCAA three point line? Yes, they are identical. That European tournament - like all international play - used the international distance of about 22'2". The NCAA lengthened the arc this year to match the international distance.

Why would you want a top talent to leave the league early? Just curious. I’ve heard this a few times. Do we really want good players and coaches (Langel) leaving this league? Wouldn’t it help the PL if they stayed?

It is a two edged sword. I think some HC fans want the league to improve, but as HC fans, some may also want their opponents to become easier targets...especially after this season and on a 12 game losing streak.
