We are the only New England school in the 30. We are the only eastern school in top 12.

Crazy how 2007 App State who beat Michigan is so far down the list at #30. They won the natty that year at 13-2 so they mustve dropped two games in the SoCon.
Safe to say if they'd faced one of Duffners squads, the game would've been "ovah by halftime".

Not saying HC should be higher (I don't know enough about FCS football over 40 years to make valid comparisions) but with 9 of the top 15 teams from the last 10 years, would seem there is a bit of a recentcy bias in the rankings.

Water cooler fodder....but here you go. I’d love to work at a place where the people around the water cooler gave a crap about stuff like this.

Could be a topic of conversation in the teacher’s lounge.

Never got to play a FCS team (or 1AA at the time) that was tournament caliber. Army was the signature win in the season opener.
Umass and W&M did not qualify for the playoffs in 1987, Villanova was just starting their program again. The Ivies didn't (and don't) participate and they were a lot weaker then as well. The Patriot opponents were manhandled by HC.
No guarantee that HC would have run the table (think at the time it would have taken 3 games, not 4) against better teams.
Nice to be mentioned, however. That team did everything it was asked to do.

In 1986 HC also OBLITERATED a William & Mary squad that beat Virginia and also made the FCS playoffs.

The '87 team definitely deserves consideration. While I get some concerns regarding the schedule that year, the Crusader's level of domination throughout the course of the season is nearly unmatched historically at the FCS level.
I still maintain the 1996 Marshall team is the best ever; Moss was simply unstoppable. The Montana team they destroyed in the title game is easily among the best ever themselves. 2013 NDSU, 2000 Georgia Southern also come to mind. Can't forget about the TBD 2020 or 2021 Trey Lance Bison squad either. The Bison's dominance isn't ending any time soon so long as Entz and the current staff doesn't "screw it up".
