Texas A&M and Texas Tech both have good club programs at the D1 level. Geographically challenging, but look at ASU's success. It will be interesting to see what happens!

UGA club is getting a 5k seat arena also announced this week! Well the NHL didn't work out in Atlanta so maybe a college program can fill that niche. Maybe in 5-10 years we'll end up with a new southern conference stretching from Georgia to Arizona. Unless you count ASU or Miami (OH) as "the south", the last frontier for DI hockey as you head down from New England is Princeton. With the Caps being so popular in DC you'd think maybe there would be an opportunity for programs at Maryland, Towson and Navy. Navy should have a Men's varsity team already. Same with the state of North Carolina -- NC State and/or UNC could definitely support programs.

Hockey would remind the good folks in NC of winter and why they don't live in the north.
When being considered for a position in NC, the ex-pat Yankee interviewer told me (who was living in Syracuse at the time and the interviewer knew me and all about Syracuse snow) that "we have the best snow removal system in the world . . . . . it's called the sun."

And a 98 car pile up when the sun doesn't come out in time to melt the black ice during rush hour.😆

Are you referring to the Flames or the Thrashers? Both. Atlanta Flames relocated to Calgary in 1980. Atlanta Thrashers relocated to Winnipeg in 2011.

I know it takes a lot more fans to support a pro team than a college team, but maybe there's no demand. How many people show up for club games that they need a 5K arena.

No one builds a new arena like that for club hockey. They definitely have Division I in mind.
