www.bostonglobe.com/2020/04/29/sports/all-ivy-harvard-lineman-liam-shanahan-headed-lsu-graduate-transfer/Of course, if I understand how this worked, he applied, got accepted, got his financial aid, then didn't play as a freshman. Hade 3 years of eligibility left w/the Crimson/Johnnies/Harvards/whichever-you-prefer, now has another year of NCAA eligibility left as a grad student. If someone at HC did this, he and his family would have to pony up the money for his freshman year; and the scholarship would not even be guaranteed thereafter.

Back in the days of 'no' scollies, a player at HC with a need-based financial aid package could do the same thing.

Back in those days the grad transfer route was not available to student athletes - I would imagine there are a few schollie frosh every year at HC who do not see the field and if they develop in their final 3 years, can do the same. The ivies have an advantage tho, because they have larger roster sizes while we have a 90 man limit.

Someone doesn't play freshman year, they have 4 years left of eligibility; barring some change, that 4th year would not be on Mt. St. James.
