More likely a candidate to join the AHA.

More likely a candidate to join the AHA. True...but it is another candidate.

I am hearing that it is more likely that Navy joins Atlantic Hockey than LIU joining.

Can someone explain to me what LIU's strategy is with this radical change in their athletic model sponsoring D.1 sports (all big money losers) - they're now playing fcs football in the NEC and D.1 men's and women's hockey as independents at this time without a campus rink. And the coronavirus reality does not seem to have effected their men's hockey plans. Was there a 'John Luth' who gave them such 'directed' funds ?

A lot of it seems to have to do with the merger of the LIU-Brooklyn and LIU-Post (formerly CW Post) campuses, which essentially created a much bigger school.
One could speculate that they're using sports for verbotem purposes like marketing, building a common campus community, etc.
Nah, that's crazy talk.

When Anna Maria college added football a few years ago, that is what the college president said, that it would bring the college community together. Reports are that it has been a plus.

When Anna Maria college added football a few years ago, that is what the college president said, that it would bring the college community together. Reports are that it has been a plus. From the New York Times article on Anna Maria football "From year to year, there are 100 to 110 football players on the roster who, after need-based financial aid from the college, pay an average of $20,000 in tuition and board. The football program expenses, including coaching salaries, equipment and staff, is roughly $425,000. The math of football’s worth is simple: a net gain for Anna Maria of $1.5 million to $1.8 million. Since Anna Maria plays in Division III, the N.C.A.A.’s lowest, and largest, level of competition, athletic scholarships are prohibited." www.nytimes.com/2019/12/27/sports/dropping-football-northeastern.html

Nothing brings the college community together like a cash infusion of $1.5-1.8 million per year. I take my hat off to both Anna Maria and Becker. They both have initiated football after being predominately women's colleges and they both have offered programs that the marketplace has demand for.

And probably wrong. But it is nice to hear a positive story about adding football being a positive for a small school.

Anna Maria according to their site costs 54k dollars...so that is 5.4 million for 100 players without getting into aid. www.annamaria.edu/student-accounts/tuition-fees#2020-2021-undergraduate-tuition-and-fees

College Hockey News thoughts on LIU. Hope it works for them. Potential openings in many leagues ->. CCHA, Hockey East and Atlantic Hockey. Plus independents like ASU and future independents like Alabama Huntsville and the Alaska schools. Glad to see expansion in college hockey as it is a great game and the NCAA is a pipeline to the NHL now.
With 18 schollies, we need to be better.

Illinois was expected to add the sport before COVID-19 but they go right into the Big-10.

The Boston University vs Holy Cross Women's Hockey East games counting towards the Turnpike Trophy has set the precedent.

Holy Cross should be awarded 2 points each season due to BU not showing up for the annual HC vs BU Football and Baseball games. 🤣

Agree. It would increase our chances of winning the enviable trophy from “none” all the way to “slim.”

Shows you how old I am. His father was a student of mine! A real compliment to the BC hockey program (Ceglarski was the coach then) that Jack Riley sent his son to play for him.
