Any idea who the tall kid on Rice was? I bet he ended up being a decent college ballplayer. Lew made him look terrible.
St. John's was foolish forcing Lapchick to retire. Or not hiring Jack D. or making sure Looie Carnesecca wasn't part of recruiting Lew.

Bob Lienhard, 6’11”, went to Georgia, averaged 22 and 15 for his career.

Not that it matters all these many years afterward, but my recollection from reporting at the time is that Lapchick recommended Jack D. to HC.

Not that it matters all these many years afterward, but my recollection from reporting at the time is that Lapchick recommended Jack D. to HC. That is correct. Lapchick was a mentor to Jack D.

...and I would imagine Louie didn't get the SJU job w/o Joe's blessing, having been his assistant for several years.
