Devin Carney, a 6’1” combo guard from Western Pa, has decommitted from Elon after a coaching change. HC offered a year ago along with a dozen other programs.

This team could use some more shooters.

Cale Jacobsen to Nebraska as a PWO. Frustrating. Ugh. I wonder if he can receive NIL money — with in-state tuition, room, and board around $20K, he could basically be on scholarship with some NIL money. The Jay Bilases of the world are ruining college sports.

Looks like HC could have a # of walk-on-site next season. In a real pinch, maybe Chesney will let the hoop team borrow the frosh TE who had an excellent hoop career in PA.

With all the Nebraska scholarship athletes, especially the massive amount of footballers, I strongly doubt there is any NIL $ for a hoops walkon. Probably none for hoops scholarship players #6-13 either. Hoops is not that important in Lincoln, Nebraska.

We recruited Joe Reilly away from one of the Phillips Academies in the summer. But he wasn't committed to a college for the next year I don't believe. What are the regulations/ethics of making an offer to this young man to play this season at HC, and would it make basketball sense if he would clear admissions?
I don't see the logic of Nelson holding over a scholarship for a year. The future is now.

Transfers a new day for recruiting/resourcing teams?? consider during Carmody's & Brown's time, recruiting full pay walk ons was part of offsetting bball scholarship costs does the willingness to accept transfers, make a 12-scholarship roster as competitive [in the PL] as 13? to be more competitive in all PL sports, Blossom' strategic plan called for more scholarships to under resourced teams a theory when Blossom hired Nelson, they discussed not using the 13th scholarship so that it could be used to generate 2 or 3 scholarships for under resourced teams. a fact? - Nelson recruits Gates & Townsel & replacements for Carmody's & his recruits who transferred out.... almost a 50/50 mix of freshmen & transfers & rarely, if ever, is the roster 13 scholarships.

Good original conspiracy theory that I've never thought of before. The value of a thirteenth scholarship player can be debated, but can a program rocking eight straight losing seasons say it is doing everything possible to turn things around while letting an allowed scholarship go unused? No.

No. If true, I would say an experiment in fiscal management that maybe a model for the transfer portal era.

I would rather save the scholarship for next year so there are two incoming frosh 14 months from now rather than 1. I know things can change after next season is over with post season movement but I still prefer two kids signing a LOI in November than one.

I assume you don't mean the staff has to spell out to recruits that they can leave right away if they don't like the place (which they can, of course). Bad form, IMHO.

For the love of God, we don’t want Brett Nelson using more scholarships on non-difference makers. Forgetting about our current predicament, I do like the idea of always having an available scholarship for a transfer difference maker. Not for having more practice players.
