Roster now at 96
Looks like Macklin Kortebein was added back to Senior class
Need to reduce it to 90 ultimately. Not sure when that gets posted
Also curious to see when Captains are announced

Not sure when that gets posted Also curious to see when Captains are announced How does the roster get reduced to 90 if not by attrition? Do the coaches actually cut players who are already on the roster? If that is the case, how is that determined? I would assume that upperclassmen who have not played any meaningful role thus far and have looted remaining eligibility would be the ones to go.

Coaches strongly urge kids not to come back by letting them know they will never see the field.
There are a couple of kids who seem to have been added late in the year as practice players to fill out 90 man roster
Teeter still there so that makes it really to 95. So 5 more must be removed.

It would be helpful if the NCAA and conferences would respond to Covid-19 with a one year relaxation of roster maximums to allow for depletion due to quarantine needs throughout the season.

Doesn't the 90 roster cap only take effect at first game?

Assume [but not necessarily so*] that 85 are on scholarship...
that suggests that 11 are not; some in the recruited class?. These appear to be candidates to be dropped from the roster during/after preseason.
*I believe it has been reported that TE has enter the portal but is still on the roster; perhaps there are others

I can’t see that happening without some really negative fallout. Players who have had a few years to break the lineup but haven’t been successful would seem to be more legitimate candidates.

Players cut from the active roster could always remain with the program in other capacities.
Does anyone know if they could be added later in the season if there are a number of injuries. Under PL rules with the 90 player limit, is the roster established for the first game locked in static or transitional with additions or deletions through the course of the season?

I really have no idea how this (90 man rostah) works but I'd hate for us to be in the practice of forcing players off the team. Hopefully this is just conjecture etc.
Having walk-ons on the team is good for team/school chemistry imo...really too bad if this is not encouraged/allowed too much at HC anymore.

Isn't it a simple matter of the team having tryouts and some people failing to make the final cut, even if they were on the team in prior years?

I really don't know how it's done at HC today, but just in general, having walk-ons on the rostah is good for team morale imo. Going through all the literal blood, sweat and tears and nevah or rarely seeing any playing time, shows a lot of courage, determination etc that can inspire a team. I knew guys in the 80s, one was my brother, who did just that.
Maybe HC football can't do that anymore for a variety of reasons today: liability, Title IX issues etc...I really don't know.

AFAIK, the last program that rostered true walk-ons to a significant extent was PSU when Bill O'Brien was head coach. The JoePa sanctions were so severe re: limits on number of players receiving scollie aid, that O'Brien invited students who had played HS football to figuratively come out of the stands and play for the varsity. Many did, and were used principally on special teams, O'Brien not wanting to lose a scollie player to injury on a special team play. IIRC, quite a few lettered. ------------------ With respect PL roster limits. The NCAA limit is 85 players receiving fin aid. When the PL moved to merit scollies, the league agreed to limit total roster size to 90 to reduce costs. Some schools, including HC, were rostering 100+, and HC had enough players to field a JV team.
On the Title IX reports for 2018-19, with respect to football,"Number of participants as of the day of the first scheduled contest"
HC reported 94, Fordham reported 96
The Title IX reports are based on the school's NCAA's annual revenue and expense reports..
So it appears schools are rostering more than 90 these days.

Hopefully not less than 52-53 leaving 37 kids on partial schollies and walk-instead. Of those on partial schollies or walk-ons, who started or played major minutes last year?

The JoePa sanctions were so severe re: limits on number of players receiving scollie aid, that O'Brien invited students who had played HS football to figuratively come out of the stands and play for the varsity. The majority of their walk-ons weren't kids who came out of the stands. Rather they were Pennsylvania kids who grew up as big PSU fans and went to PSU when probation opened up opportunities for players of their ability. When PSU was given five years of very major scholarship cuts, PSU added a lot of non-scholarship players in two ways: (a) kids recruited as preferred walk-ons; and (b) kids who transferred there, seeing a chance to live out a dream as a Nittany Lion. As a state school, the tuition wasn't exorbitant for in-state players, and a lot ended up going there specifically to play football. As one example, Bucknell lost two players (a safety and a TE) who transferred to Penn State - one from Erie and one from the Scranton area. Both, like many PA residents, had grown up as huge PSU fans. The safety ended up as a key special teams player. The TE got into some games as a backup but didn't see a lot of playing time.

So I just checked the roster
I see 91 with Tweeter on it.
I don’t see Macklin Kortbein, Patrick Mc Murtie
Anyone else see others that were there that are no longer there?
Still have to account for 3 others in the Soph and Junior classes
I also don’t see Brekke
I don’t see Jack Reichwein
Granted. Maybe they are taking a semester off

If there is no season, does the roster number matter until this time next year? Holy Cross and the Patriot League should have more important things to worry about. Then again, that's what gives the Patriot League it's special charm, isn't it?

Given current uncertainties,I would not be surprised if some players take gap years.

Roster updated on website. Right now at 91 kids.
McMurtie, Reichwein, Brekke, Kortebein all back on. Teeter off. Brekke is listed as a Sophomore?
Morrison, Hugee not on the roster anymore. There may be others but can't remember who they might be.

I count 92. Comparing the 2019 roster to this one, I do not see Connor Reid, Neal Nasuti, Tyson Hugee, Titus Morrison, Henry Teeter.
Lots of number changes -- but we do have two #24.
