ND loses a big game with potential ranking implications against Wisconsin. It appears, at least, the West Coast Brahmins will be doing likewise for the Pac-12. The Irish have Stanford and USC also. Lot of talk right now of the ACC helping the Irish fill out there schedule as they already have 6 ACC teams. Game against Navy and Arkansas might happen. I feel like the Big 10 should have exempted ND because of the geographic proximity. Less risk bussing to MSU and Michigan rather than flying to the Southeast.
I've endured the bus ride from Worcester to DC (and from Worcester to Happy Valley and Canisius) and I would think the preference would be to fly. Makes more sense to play some northern Colonial teams. Going to let this play out.

I do not think the Big 10 would go out of their way for ND, which has frequently rebuffed their invites to join.

it certainly is interesting! You make a good point about ND's relationship with the Big 10 in football, but remember the Irish hockey team does play in the Big 10. If Covid was truly a concern I would think Maryland and Rutgers would play against ACC and American foes only and the Big 10 would play ND and a few MAC teams to avoid much air travel. In reality it hurts the deepest conferences such as the SEC because the teams will be beating up on each other and not have a chance to showcase their talent vis-a-vis other conferences.

ND and the ACC will work something out schedule-wise.
ND also still has Navy on September 5th. Nothing from the AAC on cancelling non-conference yet.
I think the conference games only decisions are based more on having shorter seasons and less overnights than on reducing flights. Many of the Big Ten and Pac 12 conference games are flights. Think Maryland-Nebraska, Penn St-Iowa, UCLA-Washington, Arizona-Oregon State, etc.
Many bus trips are also overnights. Typically, unless its under a 2 hour bus ride, you're traveling the day prior and staying in a hotel.
