He’s got a double problem.
1) First name Adolph.
2) Allegedly was a racist because he coached all white basketball teams
Has the mob descended upon Lexington yet?

Maybe I've missed it in the past, but it seems to me it's the first time this has come up. Which is surprising, given how history has treated The Baron.

Adolph Rupp excluded black players from his teams until 1970-1971 campaign so from 1930-1970 they did not have a single black player. Take that for what it is...

I hope no one demands the Boston Celtics rid themselves of Lucky the Leprechaun, the mascot based on the logo on the parquet designed by Red Auerbach's brother.

According to the article posted, UK didn't allow coaches to pursue ANY black recruits until 1963. It appears there are documented cases of Rupp wanting to recruit a black player but not being able to. See write-up on Haskins in the article. Also interesting that Texas Western (now UTEP) gets all the historical PR for winning a national title as an all-black team, against Kentucky. However, they were not the first to do so. Loyola (IL) did it several years prior. Whether or not Rupp was indeed a racist will probably be up for debate and opinions will be formed based on which anecdotes people choose to believe.

I had a massive project on this topic in college way back so I am well aware of the Loyola situation which was much more interesting honestly. Those guys don’t get enough credit for what they did.
