Hope someone keeps us posted on how fall baseball is conducted, gives us a peek at whether that sport and some others can be conducted in the spring.

Spring Football just a bad concept....... Been tried numerous times....
USFL, Alliance of American Football, XFL, Continental Football, etc.
College football in the Spring ugh, 🤬 Watching football in the spring will appear to be an exhibition game without meaning, especially with a shorten season without fans.
Get it right regarding safety, and protocols, give current team members the additional year of eligibility if they and the coaching staff decide to do so. In the meantime plan on testing weekly and conditioning to fine tune the new offense to become a juggernaut.
Football games in Fitton in the fall, especially when we beat Colgate, Fordham, Harvard and Yale is a joy. Bring it on come September 2021.

Well I’m watching Mets v Yankees live (exhibition) from Citi Field and the game looks just fine to me. OK, Pete Alonso just struck out so things could be better. A couple of players/coaches are wearing bandanas (face coverings) on the bench and players not starting are behind the dugout FWIW. Golf is back, soccer is back, and baseball is back. Of course there were naysayers. Things are going in the right direction sports-wise.

No spring sports without a vaccine by December. Will there be a vaccine by December? Moderna starts phase 3 trials in little more than a week. 15,000 get vaccinated. 15,000 receive a placebo. Booster shot 30 days later for the 15,000 vaccinated, placebo shot for the 15,000 not vaccinated. At the end of August, the clock starts ticking. The phase 3 trial relies on the 30,000 living in areas which are hotbeds of community spread. That would rule out Boston, for example, being a site for the trial. The concept of the trial is that those who are vaccinated won't become infected, while some of those who received the placebo become infected. Fauci believes it will take three months to demonstrate that the vaccine works, assuming the trial sites remain as hotbeds. Poor choice of sites means the trial could take more months to complete. Ninety days from the end of August is the end of November. Assume that vaccine is shown to be safe and effective. Vaccinations begin December for those with the highest priority. Vaccinations ramp up in January for those with lower priorities, e.g., the elderly, those with underlying conditions., etc. By February, they may reach the tranche of college students living in congregate settings. First vaccinations Feb. 1-15; booster March 1-15. If colleges are willing to proceed based on partial immunity of the first shot, could play football in March. If colleges wait for the booster, could play football from mid-March onward. I use Moderna because it is the US vaccine to start phase 3. Three other potential vaccines have already started phase 3 trials. Two are Chinese-developed, one is British, developed by University of Oxford. The Oxford vaccine started phase 3 at the end of June, in Brazil. See: www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/science/coronavirus-vaccine-tracker.htmlTalked to A number of the vaccine companies recently, including Moderna, Regeneron, Sanofi, Pfizer and GSK. PP and I have had conversations earlier on this topic. In an absolute best case we have a November-February approval with a narrow label. Perhaps by next year at this time we will have a few more.i should point out that when I was with Sanofi it took us 20 years to get a vaccine for Dengue. Dengue and Covid have similar issues that need to be addressed by the vaccine companies. imho and experience this will not be a vaccine solution, but a vaccine with a variety of biopharma treatment options-but then again science offers many options... If based on a vaccine we will be playing football in the fall of 2021-not sure what leadership will do for hoops, lax and baseball, but think we are a year away

If based on a vaccine we will be playing football in the fall of 2021-not sure what leadership will do for hoops, lax and baseball, but think we are a year away I watched a 53 minute minute interview of Fauci by Zuckerberg, conducted several days ago (IMO, Zuckerberg is not a very good interviewer, or perhaps he was trying too hard not to have an 'inside baseball' conversation, given the predominant age of the audience. Zuckerberg's wife is an MD, so he knows the stuff.) Fauci indicated there were no new drugs close to approval for patients who are seriously ill, and that the focus was on drugs to treat the virus in its early stages. He spoke at some length about monoclonal antibodies and hinted these have shown early promise. But no sense that monoclonal antibodies would be a game changer in the next six months. I didn't mention the AstraZeneca / Oxford vaccine, which potentially is better than Moderna's, as AZ's Phase I produced both antibody and T-cell response. AstraZeneca is ahead of Moderna by about a month in Phase 3, and could have 300 million doses available in the U.S. by year's end / early Jan. ______________ As for hoops, being indoor and very close contact sport, see very little chance for winter hoops. It would be interesting if PL opens spring competition for fall sports, and football opts out. I very much doubt that soccer, field hockey, golf, etc. would say no to playing in the spring. _____________ HC has contracted with the Broad Institute in Cambridge MA for its COVID-testing. Broad said it currently has capacity for 35,000 tests a day, with a 24 hour test result turnaround. Presently running at 20 percent capacity. For those who have never heard of Broad (pronounced Brohd) it is probably the world's leading center for the study of genomes. It converted its highly automated genomics facility into a COVID testing facility.

Opting out is incompatible with the football mentality, imo. Are you thinking of league/school authorities opting out because football involves closer contact than other sports?

No. I was thinking of players who would prefer to not play spring football. If the players don't want to play, no point in frog-marching them onto the field for a game.

HC's current planning for the spring semester is that it will be a 'near normal' semester, given vaccine availability. It is not clear to me, given the January term, whether start of the spring semester might be delayed and allow more time for the vaccinations. _______________
Now that I have your attention,
As of last Friday, MA had not given the okay to open pools and gyms. I believe these open in Phase 3, Part 2. HC is adhering to state guidelines on when it can re-open indoor athletic facilities. HC very much wants to re-open those facilities.
HC is planning on what I would characterize as robust recreational opportunities for students during the fall semester. The college wants students to get out of the residence halls and doing outside activities as much as possible.
From the webcam, The Jo appears much closer to being finished than the November date that I have heard mentioned in one or two webinars. Perhaps, the November date, when it was said, was an expectation of when MA state guidelines would allow such facilities to re-open.
The following is a very minor epiphany, but as the USMA and USNA are not subject to state guidelines, on the principle that the sovereign is not subject to inferior institutions, that could be why they could commit/attempt to have a falls sports season, while other members of the PL could not.

Lafayette just announced today that it is reversing course and with very minimal exceptions it is going to employ an online learning only environment this fall. This will obviously impact their football program and its inability to conduct team activities this fall in anticipation of a potential spring season.

This is inaccurate. Gyms/pools aren't fully re-open, but are open at reduced capacity.

Lots of the outdoor basketball courts/playground areas etc are yet to be opened, or are operating on a schedule where the area is open one day and closed the next for cleaning or other safety reasons

With Fall now remote they can’t play football in Spring.
Kids haven’t been together In almost a year and put together the start of a season in two months, to begin play in March
I don’t see that happening. IMO

IMO I agree for different reasons; namely, even with a vaccine in early 2021, not enough's going to be sorted out w/regard to distribution, etc. in order to start training mid-January. I do think if all was well (and it won't be), two months of training would be sufficient given all the other schools would be in the same boat. Plus, nothing to prevent players from hitting the weight room in the interim.

If the PL decided to have spring football, nothing precludes HC from bringing back football players in October / November to begin workouts, limited practice. The only constraint is the new rule of one student per room, not two. I do not know, when all is said and done, whether there would be 90 single rooms still available this fall. The fact that their class attendance is still via Zoom means a transition back to on-campus residence would not be a factor.

But we haven't heard from UMass yet . It's (probably) a wrap for CFB, kicking and screaming in Tuscaloosa notwithstanding. I still think when you have a high quality head coach the program is ahead of it's peers no matter what level of training and preparedness is allowed during the suspension of play. And Holy Cross has a high quality head coach.
