Must-win game, give me Gibby in his prime over anyone. No better competitor ever. Imagine one of today's propeller-head skippers going to pull a cruising Gibson in the 5th. He'd flatten the manager before he reached the bump. Baseball was SO much better back then.

Baseball-reference has him at #14 starting pitcher all-time. I might not have him quite that high but he clearly was one of the true greats. He also hit 24 home runs and batted .206.
He averaged 20PPG at Creighton and was a strong rebounder-no surprise with his tenacity
EDIT: That's a great story in the Post-Dispatch with not only Gale Sayers coming from the neighborhood but Marlin Briscoe and Bob Boozer to boot!
