Mind if I segway to Holy Cross grad Senator Bob Casey of Pennsylvania? I've been watching him on CNN during the election saga. He is so calm and soothing he might put Sominex out of business. Very low key for a politician, but a good communicator who makes a positive impression.

Senator Casey was the commencement speaker when my daughter graduated in 2009. I thought he delivered an excellent speech

His father, also a Holy cross grad, was an excellent and beloved Governor. Are the phrases "Holy Cross grad" and "excellent and beloved" redundant?

The only other HC grad who was a governor that I can think of is David I. Walsh (also a U.S. Senator). Any others?

There's a Bob Casey who was a bit player on at least one of the Heinsohn teams. But there is a Robert Casey, Class of 53 and a Robert Casey, Class of 54. So I guess it's 50-50 it's the same man.

Wiki says he graduated in 1953, was on a hoops schollie and played with Cooz. Sports reference has him playing 19 games in ‘52- 53 season averaging 1.4. So he would not have played with Heinsohn, who was on the ‘54-56 teams. I am not sure if freshman were eligible then or not. The HC hoops fact book has him winning one letter, in ‘52-53

The HC hoops fact book has him winning one letter, in ‘52-53 You can look to Fr Markey for guidance. Some article posted on Heinsohn's passing mentions Fr Markey as a team mate. Heinsohn was a freshmen when Fr Markey was a senior. Accepted at face value, those two facts imply that freshmen, even though they were not allowed to play in games, were part of the team on some level. Probably practiced with the upper classmen. Looking the other way, we know from the record book that Fr Markey'53 didn't play as a freshman, so freshmen were not eligible then. Taking this one step farther, Governor Casey '53 would have been a freshmen during Cousy's senior year. Likely as much of a team mate to Cooz as Fr Markey was to Heinsohn

He also of spending time "in the Big House" fame. He was also the former mayor of Cranston. I've met Ed on a couple of occasions both at HC alum events and through a mutual friend. He is the nicest ex-con I've ever met. His Cranston house that he eventually sold looks like a very-mini Monticello with the large white columns in front. www.golocalprov.com/news/scoundrels-chapter-3-cash-in-the-dumpsterFWIW, his corruption was nothing compared to the master and fellow Jesuit-educated alum (Fairfield), former Providence mayor, Buddy Cianci.

William Smith RI Gov 1923-25, born 1885 which probably has him graduating somewhere around 1907.
