Jack Donoghue’s teams had their names on their units near the end of his tenure. The names were in big letters and in the shape of the top half of a circle above the number. I think a press guide showed that look in a photo of Bob Kissane.

I don't care if they wear matching t-shirts and shorts recently discovered in an old Herman's warehouse.
Just win some games! Well said! LOL

I remember the uni's with the names on the back..I think they were referred too as TV uniforms..It seems to be be more of a football and hockey thing than hoops these days....
I will print the HC roster before going to the game tonight..

I think a press guide showed that look in a photo of Bob Kissane. I actually have one of those. It's number 22, and the outline of the name that was on the back is still visible - or at least it was when I last saw the jersey many years ago. My daughter has it up in Maine, and I'll get it back from her and post a picture.
Anyone want to hazard a guess as to the name on the back of the jersey?

Blaney inherited those Donahue unis and the names remained for his first year only. The warmups had names on the back, too; for 4-5 years of his tenure. After that, don't remember any year where we had them, gamers or warmups. Was #22 Larry Haley? Second guess is Kevin Stacom, given Haley didn't play while Kevin was there, could be either one. (these I'm sure of: 10 Adams, 10 Gaskins, 14 Grentz, 20 Grayson, 24 Schnurr, 30 Venne, 42 Halsey, 44 Doyle, 50 Moulton, 54 Budris, 54 Sasso) Not sure if I ever read this King Gaskins article. Seems rather accurate, except I'm pretty sure it was a place off campus he got nabbed for breaking into, not at HC itself. Never heard of "Larry" being involved, but I have a good guess who he was. (NOT Haley, someone else). digboston.com/throwback-special-for-march-madness-in-mass-the-king-of-boston-basketball/

I'll post a picture when I retrieve the jersey.

I think Bob Kissane was a senior on that team along with Adams and Sasso. Was Kissane #40 or #41. That team had a lot of talent on it. Two HC HOF's, a 3rd who should be and a 4th who became an NBA player. Adams, Grentz, Venne and Schnurr were nothing to sneeze at either. Sasso was also a good big who was limited at the end of his career with bad knee(s).

crossworks.holycross.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1054&context=purple_patcherPages 252 through 258 of the 1971 Purple Patcher provides several pictures of the HC basketball uniforms with the names displayed on the back of the uni. Page 252 has a picture of Kevin Stacom, so you do not have to venture to the hinterlands of Maine. There are multiple pictures of Stacom on the yearbook pages. Anyone recognize #15 from PC?

The Larry mentioned was definitely not Larry Haley. I also have an idea who the Larry was that was mentioned.
Every time I read an article about King Gaskins, it is very sad to think of how his career ended and the tragic ending of his life.

Ernie "no" D. Interesting pix throughout the yearbook. P.S. Larry Haley, good guy and carpenter.

When you play in the nearly invisible pL you take what Adidas gives you and be thankful they did.

Yes, I'm glad you made that correction, because Larry Haley was not the Larry I was thinking of either. Plus, he had graduated the year before to boot, he was not around the program any more (and I was, so I'm sure of that), Gaskins wouldn't have known him.

Tim, I think the Larry you're thinking of is Larry Reynolds who played for Gibbons Sr at Becker, don't know if he even made it through one season at HC. Gaskins was arrested on Grafton Hill told police he was a TV repairman.

Yes, that's got to be the Larry that King was referring to. All I remember about him was that he did not finish the 72-73 season (jv player, don't think he saw a varsity minute in his time there; because he was not very good, no other reason) and he wasn't very friendly (King, OTOH, was; and I've always felt bad that Holy Cross was such a bad fit for both him and the school).

King Gaskins was an incredibly talented player-such a tragedy that he had such problems and died so young.

KY...I agree on all counts. Indeed a tragic life.
