I was just looking at the school's homepage and noted that the 'first year retention rate is 89 pct - I am sure I read in previous years that a few pct points higher was always the case. This measure is used in most college ranking criteria. All this being said, I am sure this is a function of the pandemic and that many schools are experiencing the same thing. Are there other factors unique to HC that the administration should be concerned about ?

Is that stat for this current school year ? Wouldn’t it be too early to determine the retention rate for freshmen ? If it is for current sophomores, the effects of the virus would be from March forward only.

It refers to this year's soph class I am sure - many of those families decided to defer their 2nd year given the lack of a 'college experience' and what the school was charging for remote learning

Students who withdrew for a year are not enrolled; some apparently are taking courses at other schools, IIRC, HC allows up to two courses per semester to be taken elsewhere.

Are there other factors unique to HC that the administration should be concerned about ? As stated above a lot of current sophs might have decided to take a COVID year off. If we're only talking about a few percentage points, another contributing factor is the fact that about a half a percent of that freshmen class were basketball players who transferred.

I hope our field goal percentage didn't also go down when they left.
