Given that HC had to cancel a hockey game due to the inability to get results after Christmas, I am going to speculate (because that's what we do here) that the schools have just found out that the testing companies are taking days off for the holidays.

Not likely the case here, since BU has their own private testing center.
HC's reliance on the Broad Institute does put them a little more at the mercy of their provider, given that Broad services a whole bunch of schools and other institutions in the area. But their capacity is pretty staggering at this point. I know delays at peak volume (i.e. move-in) were a concern for HC when making their decision about the fall semester, but I expect it's much less of a concern now.
