Not much poise today, especially from the veterans.

Today demonstrates the up and down expectations for this team. Hopefully tomorrow will be an “up” as we peaked at about 10 -15 minutes into the game.

Defense becoming unwatchable Am I missing something for thinking we might want to throw a 2-3 zone against them and see how they handle it. This isn't good.

HC looks to have tired legs and has been a step slow on many defensive possessions.
Offense has also been less fluid than the BU games, with more guys standing around watching.
With the score 75-59, by my count, 69 of Army’s 75 points were scored by Seniors and Juniors. On the other side of the ball, HC is playing 2-3 (sometimes 4) Freshmen virtually the entire game and that difference in experience has been very clear today.
Tough day.

A few observations:
1. No surprise there's already a plan to defend Gates: double team down low, make him prove he can pass out of the double team or shoot from the outside. 2. We're not a good rebounding team. 3. There's good effort on D but we play poor team defense. That's inexperience. 4. Ryan Wade deserves a lot of minutes: good D, poised, good shooter. 5. We have a lot more talent than last year, but don't gel as a team yet. 6. HC's problems are fixable but this year is going to be a roller coaster ride.

Army looked pretty good. HC has its hands full with this schedule. We will not win many games giving up 80+ points. BBC made a good point about the experience factor.

These days will happen with a young team and coach. Hopefully we make some adjustments and can get the split tomorrow. We are really, really thin up front. If we have to play small, I’d like to see us try to be more disruptive defensively before the other team can get the ball to the basket. Once they get it down there, it usually ain’t good for us.

Army was able to neutralize Gates much more effectively than BU did. As the season progresses I'm confident that his ability to find the open man out of the paint will improve rapidly

HC looks to have tired legs and has been a step slow on many defensive possessions. Tired legs from Tuesday? Defense has been an issue for Nelson since day one. Is it a tired legs issue or a scheme issue on defense? Those are the only two options? How about a personnel issue? The roster was brutal last year, and is extremely inexperienced this year. Nelson is a basketball coach, not a magician or miracle worker. It will take time to build this program back up from the ashes.

Through three games, Butler is 9-14 3PT and 1-9 FT. Amazing.
