BU did not film on us (and HC none of BU) - that was unique to week one only now coaches can break down film and prepare a game plan - Army has a very good PL team and has poise that was demonstrated today and last weekend when they won game 2 at Colgate
It appeared to me that quite often Gates was alone down low on offense. Faw is a nice player but is more of a finesse player. Possibly some bulky bigs with heft down low in tandem with Gates would have helped. Is there a cavalry from Canada on the way? I don't know. What do I know? I'm a Knicks fan!
If Louth and Mike aren’t going to be ready to contribute this year, we may need to send Martindale to the AB School of Rebounds. Austin has 26 rebounds through three games. Martindale has 4. Butler has played 96 minutes to Martindale’s 69. I know it’s not fair to ask a freshman guard to be a big rebounder but he’s going to be the tallest guy on the floor a lot for us if Matt can’t stay out of foul trouble.
I am certain that there is no uncertainty among certain HC coaches. But I am not certain about the uncertainty of the "other guys."
RGS I was honestly opening up. You & others were coaches & players. You alums know the game. I like to think that after all these years watching and loving the ballet on the hardcourt I absorbed enough to make a reasonably perceptive comment. No apologies for my ability to coin a phrase. Peace.
4-7 wins look likely and the team will learn how to win.
However as a fan and part of the tv audience I plan to look for adjustments tomorrow on both ends.
Looking for more back screens to set up Gates Do things to open up Wade, Martindale, and Johnson Crisper passing and better off the ball movement More back door cuts by the wings Possibly bring Faw off the bench as the 6th/7th man
Better coordination, talking and rotation Instead of full court soft pressure consider 3/4 and 1/2 court pressure traps Try an occasional zone-3/2 ? trapping the wings and post
Still waiting to score on an inbounds play that exploits the holes in the defense or sets up a good look
Looking for playing time to stay the same or close to it, but not by the clock and more by need-
Watching for the defensive adjustments tomorrow
I like this Army team and think they are well coached
