Generally agree, but Joe is from Worcester County so a story about him would be of interest to one or two of the Telegram's remaining readers. Is he the only current successful college player from Worcester County ? No clue. But he's likely one with whom she has an established relationship and when it's been two weeks between games for the team you cover, you're in an industry fighting to survive, you do things that will drive someone to click and read. Have there not been stories about Gerrale Gates, Judson Martindale in the last couple of weeks? I'm pretty sure there was one on Butler at the start of the season and will likely will write others before the season is over. Just don't think it's something to be cranky about since Pridgeon is from the area and he was part of her beat.

Jen, There are some players who did not abandon the school that gave them scholarships worth over a quarter of a million dollars as well as deserting their teammates. They deserve to be written about. Not someone who plays in North Carolina. Should the Boston Globe not write about Tom Brady?

Should a larger share of viewers in the Boston TV market than in the Tampa Market not watch the super bowl? Recruiting locally has a small but real advantage for a college sports team because it helps local residents identify with the team. Reading between the lines in the few articles that have been written about him, JP is more comfortable at UNC Wilmington than at HC, even though we learn today he had never even visited the UNCW campus before he transferred. The good news is nobody has transferred out this season.

Telegram has written multiple articles on him

Announcer tonight said Illinois has been 5-0 since Grandy’s been starting. He’s been quite energetic out there tonight as Illinois should crush Northwestern (again) tonight.

Outside of Grandison, not like anyone who left chose a big upgrade (I like the CAA, but it's not what it used to be) or a school having great success this year.

Chris went to Duke. Beyond that, Illinois is a pretty entertaining team to watch. Their big guy Cockburn is quite something (and quite big) and they've got lots of other talent. Perhaps Final Four talent ( www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/30914193/how-illinois-fighting-illini-became-final-four-contender)

collins is 10-45 (18.2%) in big ten play over the last three seasons as head coach of northwestern. as many of us rightfully pointed out at the time, northwestern is a very difficult place to win. while it was clearly time for us to move on from carmody at hc after his disappointing tenure, he was certainly not to blame for northwestern's struggles. in fact, the talent carmody left behind at northwestern might be the only reason collins' absolutely pathetic record is not even worse.

Too busy pumping the tires of a coach presiding over the worst two year stretch of HC basketball since WWII.

Going for the way back machine but in the topic of departed from the program. . .
Someone on the coaching thread brought up Bryant Coach Tim O'Shea. Made me look. His nephew Joe who transferred from HC to play for his uncle is currently an assistant coach at D-II St Anselm

Drew Lowder update of sorts. He has not played since 1/26.
EMU had 6 postponements in that time, a 21 day layoff; followed by 3 recent games.
No mention of him having an illness or injury.
Statistically worse in all respects, except turnovers; vis-a-vis his time spent at Holy Cross.

Grandison had a nice game last night with 14 points and 7 boards in 23 minutes. He’s become a very heady player there.

Statistically worse in all respects, except turnovers; vis-a-vis his time spent at Holy Cross. During the Toledo game on January 12th, Lowder apparently had an unspecified "allergic reaction," serious enough that he had to be taken off the court on a stretcher. Scroll down . . . csnbbs.com/thread-914546.html
He was back two days later, and in the five subsequent games, averaged 22mpg, went 11-51 (5-26), and had eight assists. No hard information on the EMU board about his absence since 1/26, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of expectations about him returning

Anaphylactic reactions can result in fainting and shock. That's why people are kept at a vaccination site for 15 minutes after receiving their COVID vaccine shot. Can be very serious if not treated immediately. But the reaction is short-term, and should have no long-term consequence that would keep him from returning to play quickly. Unless, of course, his collapse wasn't an allergic reaction.

In the D.2 world Niego is starting and playing major minutes - most recently had a 16 pt/11 reb game for Lewis - season ave 8 pt/8 reb Blake Verbeek has played sparingly for Grand Valley St in 13 games so far - 2 pt/2 reb per game

One of the departed nobody has mentioned is Ciaran Sandy. Happy to report that he is playing regularly at Miami Dade CC, averaging a team-high 13ppg and hauling down 7rpg. Believe he hopes to make his way back to a higher level of play at some point - rooting for him.

Well he did not play at all. Which is sad. Watching him in warmup lines it was clear he was super athletic and his size could’ve been a plus this year

I also think there was something to preserving a year of eligibility for him by not playing him at all in his one season at HC.

Nothing I know of would prevent that. But it is unlikely.

And well, a warmup line is all we really saw from him last year anyway. More meant that he looked like a pure athlete and we could have used him over the span of his career
