This is the opposite of Coach Pearl leaving HC as head hockey coach to join Harvard as an assistant, and represents positive momentum for Holy Cross Athletics.

Post from 'fanlax' site about the hire:
Been lucky to see the MD lacrosse program up close for the past few years now and can tell you that Rep is about as good as they come in every aspect. Great person, players really like him, great coaching chops, and he's learned how to run a program under some of the best in the game. Never heard anything about Rep on the recruiting side of things, but it's hard to magine that he wasn't involved in landing some of the best offensive players in the nation that have come through Maryland during his time there. When you see that list of high schools he worked at while serving in the Marines, those are schools that are not only phenomenal HS programs but also the kinds of schools that fit Holy Cross's academic profile. He's probably coming in with really good relationships with coaches from elite high school and club programs. Great hire for you all.

Interesting but, as bfoley pointed out, Navy wasn’t very good when he was an assistant there years ago so he’s pretty much guaranteed to be terrible no matter what this guy who actually has watched him coach says.

HC Men’s Lax Video for JL Reppert. Background music is composed by Hans Zimmer, for the Batman Trilogy. Appropriate since Batman is the Caped Crusader.

Coach Rep is as solid of a lax coach as any other ... and that is anywhere else in DI or high D3. His background compliments that of Coach Lynch who also came to HC from the Naval Academy Prep (NAPS). HC has a strong group returning and with the great academic, facilities and staff, should be able to attract the students who can continue to succeed on the field, in the classroom and the community. Well done. Very similar resume to Lattimore....High Level Assistant who has never been a collegiate head coach. Navy's record under Coach Rep 2014: 4-10 2013: 3-10 2012: 6-6 The first year after Coach Rep left in 2015, Navy won the Patriot League with a 9-5 record under the same head coach. And his “failure” as an assistant at Navy led him right into a promotion to an assistant coach position at a Maryland program that was coming off a trip to the Final Four. ——— I don’t really care about lax — just hope this guy is better than the used car salesman we ended up with the last time we hired someone from Maryland.

Look who replaced him at Maryland? Bobby Benson who was an assistant for the last 14 years at Hopkins.

When asked what made him choose HC, JL listed support from administration, recruiting potential, and the Jesuit aspect(went to a Jesuit HS).

I assume Reppert is on campus by now.
Any news of the team? Practices underway? PL schedule format is announced ... any out of conference games expected?

The event was well attended with about 130 participants. After brief comments by an alumnus, Marcus discussed the hiring process. He said it was a "very attractive pool" consisting of current head coaches, former head coaches and several assistants. JL then spoke for about 10-12 minutes before a Q&A session. He certainly seems like an enthusiastic coach. Coming from a Jesuit HS, he seems very much into the "men for others" theme. While I didn't take notes, the points that stuck out in my mind were: 1) He thinks the offices, weight training facility and the indoor practice area are among the best in the country. He was less complimentary about Fr. K Field. I forget the exact terms, but he clearly implied it was not up to par. 2) He thinks the PL is a very strong league, which is one of the considerations that attracted him to the job. He is hoping to have 1 non-conf. game on Feb. 27, but nothing has been inked yet. Needs to find a school with the same COVID protocols as HC has. Without mentioning schools, he thinks there are some very attractive opponents in New England for future schedules. 3) Marcus came on near the end and discussed scholarships. The program currently has 2 scholarships. Marcus thinks that puts a ceiling on how good the program can be. As part of a strategic plan he will present to the trustees in a few weeks, he hopes to boost that to 6-8 for both men's and women's teams. Not clear what the time frame would be for that.
There was a "commercial" at the end for the CAF and for the 2nd edition of the CAF golf outing to be held June 14 at Eastward Ho on the Cape. The event was well done and went exactly 1 hour.

To add, Fr. K field is presently an inferior venue for hosting championships. I think this was primarily a reference to seating and amenities. HC bought 103 Epworth St several years ago. As this residence has water and sewer lines, it would be fairly easy to run connections to Fr. K field from this property rather than the 150-200 yards of blasting through ledge from the Luth, and traversing the high pressure natural gas pipeline at the top of the hill. (MB has said separately that Fr. K field is nearing the end of its useful life.) HC cannot be competitive long term without more scollies. As I understood MB, a factor in the additional scollies for teams such as men's lacrosse is Title IX; i.e., there is probably a one for one scollie add for women's teams because females are 53 percent of HC's current enrollment. On scheduling, the coach said he would like to schedule future OOC games in areas where rostered players live. I was a bit surprised by the number on a mid-day Zoom, as there was already a Zoom session for players and their parents.

To me, any facility named after Fr. K. should be second to none.

Only two schools you would think that are bad opponents are Umass-Lowell and maybe Vermont. Besides that I can't see them dropping the local Ivy League schools to go to Hopkins or Virginia. Do those teams even want to play Holy Cross?
