Given the brevity of the 'season' I am wondering if Coach Chesney might be tempted to look a bit more towards next season than he would ordinarily do - and make some personnel decisions (in terms of starters/playing time) with that in mind.

After watching what happened this winter with hoops and hockey, I tend to look at 2020-21 as an extended exhibition season where we have games and playoffs. While better than an empty season, and helpful during periods of distancing and confinement, the players and coaches must be struggling.
With some luck football and the other spring sports will have a more complete and positive experience for players, coaches, students and fans.

With a league championship and opportunity to possibly play in the FCS tourney on the line, I suspect Chesney will very much play to win.

I can't see Coach Chesney ever playing in any way other way than "to win." He might, however, give the underclassmen more of a look if possible.
I am wondering who will spend most of the time at QB. I think it is safe to say that Degenhardt will be the starter, unless something happens in the way of an injury, but (again, if possible) we may see more folks getting time at QB than in a typical year.

I sure as heck hope no one treats this like an extended scrimmage season. We are defending champs and if some other team wins they will be defending champs come fall. This may be an abbreviated season but it is still “real” and still “counts.”
Stop poo-pooing these games.

Completely agree with your first paragraph. I'm not at all sure who our starting QB will be. The last time we played a real football game Degenhardt was benched early and Considine came in and played well the rest of the game. That was our loss to Monmouth. Two games before that (Fordham) Chesney didn't seem to love either one. In the year+ since then one of the younger guys might have developed (and will also be available next year) or one of those two tall pro-style seniors may have clearly separated himself from the other.

I agree. That is a lot to look forward to in the coming games.

I really wouldn’t want to be in Chesney’s position. There isn’t enough time to really figure out the qb’s in the minimal practices that are available. Play to win. Probably gotta go with what you know. However, the loss of speed in the senior running backs will change the game play. Should be interesting.

Your post made me look at the RB roster and learned we only have 4 RBs on the roster. Seems a little light. I suspect we’ll see roughly equal amounts of Forrest and Oliver. Excited to see what Forrest can do with a heavier workload and another 18 months of college strength and conditioning. Only other RBs are Abrams, a Junior who has played mostly special teams thus far and the Freshman Ezema. Weird to have no Senior RBs and only one Soph and one Frosh.

We do have 22 DBs so we’re all set there.

Two words (or one, take your choice) Twopeat No doubt Chesney wants to win out and repeat (twopeat?) as PL champ and go deep in the FCS playoffs this spring. At the same time college coaches definitely think ahead. These are not mutually exclusive or contradictory considerations. The nightmare scenario is having three classes on campus next year with very little college playing experience (this year's sophs, this year's frosh, and next year's frosh). We don't redshirt. Chesney wants to three-peat and make deep runs in the FCS Playoffs each year.

Chesney has a great relationship with the high school coaches in Central Mass and throughout the state.

Holy Cross mourns passing of Surrette, Maheu Jennifer Toland Telegram & Gazette
The Holy Cross football program recently mourned the passing of two former players, Dick Surrette (Class of 1958) and Ron Maheu (Class of 1964).
Surrette grew up in Leominster and was a star athlete at Leominster High.
He led Holy Cross in rushing yards three straight seasons (1955-57) and served as team captain his senior year.
Maheu, a HC offensive lineman, was a member of the Gridiron Club Leadership Council and a driving force behind the creation of the Crusader Football Legends Ring of Honor.
The Ring of Honor was created in 2010 to recognize the best individuals in the history of Holy Cross football, and currently has 28 distinguished members.
Time to add some more members.

I don't know Assumption alum Deonte Harris must feel right at home with the New Orleans Saints then.
