Definitely a game I would very much like to see us play. Name opponent we could potentially beat on the right day in a nice place to visit.

Nice stadium @ Duke, but I'd be more jealous if they were playing LSU, Michigan, or Notre Dame.

It's not this simple. Opponent has to be willing to play as well. With HC getting better, it does however put HC in a better position to put feelers out for games like this if they are so inclined; but it should be noted that while the players love these type of games, Ches does not.

For what it's worth, in the last two non-COVID seasons, HC has played two different teams that are in Duke's conference. One has been marginally better than Duke recently, the other has been marginally worse than Duke recently.

I want to see us play Rice or Northwestern. A game against Northwestern would be possible. They hosted UNH about 15 years back -- UNH won. Doubt a low-level FBS program like Rice has any interest in ponying up the guarantee to cover travel costs and lodging for a team from the Northeast. Without looking at their history of playing FCS teams, my guess/vague recollection is that they would typically host a SWAC or Southland opponent. Duke is probably a bus trip for Lafayette, granted a long one. Duke would have to fly the Holy Cross team, which they probably don't want to do.

Not sure how you define "FBS opponent like that" but in the last 3 years we've played: Boston College Syracuse Navy

I know this is always a fluid situation but as of now I believe we're here with FBS opponents currently:
2021 UConn 2022 Buffalo 2023 BC 2024 None so far and we can schedule 12 games this year and in '25 I believe 2025 Northern Illinois
2024 would seem a good year to go somewhere "different" i.e. the South or West Coast....we shall see.

2024 -- UMASS only has 11 games scheduled, including one FCS already (Wagner). Open dates are mid to late October. UCONN only has 6 games on the books. Earliest open date is 9-21.
Army has an open date on 9-14-24.

I don't mind the UConn or UMass games as they are historic and local rivals....but I don't want a steady diet of them....I know, we really aren't in too strong of a position to "pick and choose."

I'll disagree. I'd have no problem playing one of those two (UMass/UConn) every year.

I'd agree but not if it was in lieu of scheduling a 2nd FBS game that year....I'd rather mix it up...service academies, historic rival in a P5 conference (BC, Syracuse, Rutgers), MAC school, "academic" school (Northwestern, Rice, Vandy etc).....play UConn and UMass every few years etc.

It would be fun to play either UMass or UConn. However neither school does anything for our brand. They are nonentities outside of New England. We need to play games in other sections of the country preferably against lower level FBS teams not powerhouses in the SEC, ACC. ND does not schedule FCS opponents. It makes no sense for their storied program to tarnish their brand. Lower level FBS programs(Rice, Tulane, Vanderbilt, Air Force, again, etc.) might not be wiling to play a strong HC team for fear of losing. FBS schools have nothing to gain and a lot to loseplaying a strong FCS team. Nonetheless I hope we can pull it off with one of our strong teams in the near future.
