Eight players receiving some athletic scholarship assistance would cost less than eight full scholarships. That wouldn't qualify as fully funded but would be a step in the right direction.

too bad the JO does not have a surface for indoor tennis - college spring tennis is played indoors for the most part since it starts in February - I say forget the silly talk about athletic aid, but give the coaches (for M&W) a decent recruiting budget and get some kids who want to play - I don't think I have the stomach to report how our teams did this spring - simply put, neither of our teams could beat a decent H.S. team as we hardly won a single set all year.

Over the years we have struggled against Division one opponents but held our own against lower division schools and then those weren't sure things anymore.

All that floor space in the Luth and the Jo and nobody thought to at least include a couple of tennis courts at least as part of a multi use if not a dedicated area. I imagine interest from the rest of the community would be high in off hours, too. A priority seemed to be luxury player lounge space in the Luth. Perhaps a poster will correct me and point out what space could be used to support the tennis team.

Tennis for example could be fully funded at Holy Cross pretty easily.... Fully funded for tennis means eight scholarships on the women's side. That would require an endowment of about $12.5 Million. But Title IX likely would require a big contribution for men's sports as well. So maybe $20M+. Maybe they should start with a full-time head coach and not a school principal.

That is what Paxton charges over there for members.

Our softball team extended their losing streak to 10 with loss in game 1 today at Army - then it took a no-hitter from Kelly Nelson in game 2 for a 1-0 win lhe ladies' season will end tmro at home with dh vs. Army

Even then, Army got runners to second and third in the bottom of the 7th with two outs. Nelson pitches her heart out and was one more error (they made 2) away from another "L."

Does that include our nationally ranked 8 man crew?

Does that include our nationally ranked 8 man crew? Live and learn. Started a separate thread for them. We have threads on pretty much every possible sports topic in the world and no one bothered to mention we have the 17th best crew team in the nation?

After her no-hitter yday, Kelly Nelson started the first game today and overcame an unearned run by AWP, as HC won 2-1. In softball it’s all about pitching and she’s our best by far - congrats on a great weekend

Our team doesn't hit much - coach sends Nelson out for the 2nd game also and she loses a 1-0 decision - AWP scores an unearned run in the 7th to win it another disappointing season has ended and we (along with Lafayette) are not close to the top 5 teams in the league - BU Lehigh Bucknell and AWP and Colgate

No Cape League for softball players. Do they play in amateur adult leagues in the summer?

There are a couple. What you're looking for are ASA 23u or Women's Open. The Brakette's still run a 23u program in New England. Out here in SoCal there is (or at least was) a WO summer league, a State and occasionally a National tournament that I've had teams in before. Usually at least 6 teams of college players. The Hurricanes are usually our top team, mostly Pac12 players. But we have others that are Big 12 heavy, etc. 8 weekends in total (around 35 to 40 games if you play them all and do reasonably well) against solid competition. Low key and lots of fun. I used to have the local HC players on the squad every year. Assuming they're not rehabbing, it's a great way to stay sharp. Patriot League pitching does not look that daunting when you've just seen pitchers from Power 5 Teams.

I hope the Holy Cross coaches are planning on being at Fast Pitch Nation Park in Windsor CT, on the weekend of June 12-13 for the College Recruiting Season Tune Up. It is for teams 16u and 18u. With tournaments there each weekend during the summer, with teams from New England and New York, it should be a regular stop on the weekends that feature 18u teams. playfpn.com/

Local is easy and cheap for the HC coaching staff. They should still make the trip to SoCal for Surf City, Champions Cup and hit all four Head First camps. It's a grind, but it's the job.
You gotta fish where the fish are.

Agree.
Looking forward to seeing the plans and design for the new softball stadium. It is needed.

Kelly Nelson and Bella Jankowski got Second Team All League. Good for them. Nelson had a great case for First Team, she's about the most unhittable pitcher in the PL, but it's hard to put a player on the First Team list when you're .200 in league play...

Softball roster has 4 players from Florida and 5 players from California.
That tells me that the coaching staff is making the effort to recruit players from states far and wide, so I don't fault them for that.
Hopefully, those efforts will reap some rewards in the coming seasons.

BU swept through the Patriot League tourney and heads to the NCAA Tournament with a 36-2 record.
They have four kids from New England and one each from Jersey and Pennsylvania. The rest are from all over the place including nine from California.
The top two pitchers for them are from Ohio and CT though.

Rhode Island coach didn't get her contract renewed after 6 years. Thier win percentage was worse than ours, but they took 2 out of 3 from us head to head. It's mid-May and the coaching merry-go-round has already started.
